Michael says I don’t look so good

What do you think?

Cellular phone self-portrait, taken in the bathroom five minutes after he made that remark. The picture makes my eyes look green. They’re blue.

Thanks to the Fentanyl, for about 36 hours now I haven’t slept for more than a few minutes at a time. I may call Dr. Easley tomorrow on Monday and ask if there’s anything to be done, but I think I’ll just have to wait this out. Side effects usually go away within a few days of starting a new medicine, right?

But it is taking care of the pain quite nicely.

Well, Michael would know. But, since you haven’t been sleeping and have been in a lot of pain…I wouldn’t think you’d look like a beauty queen, either. It’s a shitty tradeoff…sleep, or no pain. Dealing with it myself right now. I can either….take the meds and hope they work so I can go to sleep sometime or…fall asleep from sheer exhaustion because I’m so tired all day long. I can’t sleep if my disease ( that might be a little strong, I’ll call it a condition) is acting up, but the meds wipe me out. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t…feel better soon, hope all the crazy doctor stuff works out for you. Actually, you look better than me! Maybe you should get some more acupuncture/massage thing!

You look a bit wired and tired, but if you can’t sleep by tomorrow, please call the doctor. I am worried about you. I know that sometimes the only thing that relieves my “issues” is sleep. I second Kat on the idea of massage though.

I think I got an hour or two in last night, anyway. I tossed and turned a great deal but Michael says he heard me snoring. I think I just have to get used to the drug and then the side affects will go away. It would be nice if the unbearable itching went away too, before I rip my skin to shreds.

Well, the pic itself isn’t real good, so that would help make you look bad. But to tell the truth, I’ve seen other pics of you that you posted and if you realy want to know, you don’t look very healthy in any of them. You don’t look like you eat or sleep right, or like you’ve been sick for a long time.

I haven’t had a proper photo taken in a long time; the last one was that portrait of me and Michael in September 2009. (My sister wanted to take pictures of me at Dad’s birthday party in June but I refused. I don’t really like having my picture taken.) But I don’t eat right and mostly I don’t sleep right either (though never so bad as this) and I never really have.

I gained weight this summer, though, because of a new medicine I’m taking. I now weigh 133 pounds, more than I’ve ever weighed in my whole life. Still a size four though, thank goodness. I really wouldn’t want to have to go out and buy a whole bunch of new pairs of pants.

I have been intermittently reading your blog. I am an RN but no means a headache expert. But what about temporal arteritis? an unusaul manifestation of same?Would the scans and tests have shown that or a similar condition? Has it been mentioned?

    • Meaghan October 1, 2011 / 1:28 pm

The scans and tests showed no evidence of inflammation to my blood vessels.

You look old for your age, but I wouldn’t say you look bad per se -/ i wouldn’t be concerned if i saw you on the street.

    You do look tired.
