Sean Munger, at my request, has written about one of my most compelling cases, Garnell Moore. His case is always one I bring up when telling a new person about the Charley Project. The little kid who was missing for years before anyone noticed. As Sean points out, one can’t truly say Garnell slipped through the cracks in the system. He didn’t fall out of the safety net; he missed the net entirely.
And it’s like he never existed: “A little boy who no one seemed to pay attention to when he was around seems, sadly, to inspire the same sort of indifference now that he is not.”
I think he must be dead. I suppose there’s a remote chance he’s alive and being cared for by someone, perhaps a kind stranger who picked him up — in which case he’s probably better off.
Someone’s got to know something.

Very sad case. Like Rilya Wilson except this time there’s not even an agency to blame.
You’ve got his hieght at five-three and his weight at 120. Is that right? Because that is HUGE for a 7yo boy.
Probably it’s wrong, but that’s what NCMEC has the measurements as and I don’t have anything else to go by. Maybe they meant estimations of what his height and weight would be when he was finally reported missing.
I’m currious to know was the care giver convicted of any crime? First she stated he was away at a school event then later she said she left him some where and it was a fictitious address. Who says water boarding doesn’t work I sure would like to get the truth out of her. Sorry if this offends anyone but I become very angry when children disappeare.
She was never charged with anything in connection with Garnell’s disappearance, if that’s what you mean.
Can you post a list of persons that are not on charley and you are gonna post.
I could, but the list would amount to the hundreds, maybe over a thousand by now. I can see better uses of my time.
I think he’s dead. He will be 21 next spring and still hasn’t come forward to put everyone’s mind at ease. Me thinks aunty knows something….
Alas, I’m afraid you’re right on both counts.
I remember running across this case on a Forensic Astrology/Psychic blog once. The psychic discerned that Garnell’s death was unintentional either by accident or neglect some time in mid to late 2002. Rather than get medical help for the boy when whatever happened went down, Belinda Cash instead panicked and concealed his death hoping he would never be missed. While in most cases when parents or guardians attempt to conceal deaths, the child IS indeed missed by quite a few people and people soon start asking hard questions, Garnell sadly is the poster child for “Nobody’s Child”. He left this world without a trace because there nobody to stick up for him and say “If I even think you harmed just one hair on his head I’m calling social services, going to the police, taking him away, etc…”
If not for the other relative who eventually cared enough to want to see him and wouldn’t accept some lame excuse, nobody would have ever known a little boy named Garnell once lived.
