Woo, I got some news

Awhile back I posted, as one of my Flashback Friday cases, a certain little girl who vanished without a trace over 30 years ago. I had almost no information on her disappearance and appealed for anyone who knew anything to contact me. Well, someone finally has. This is the would-be stepmother of that little girl. She was married the girl’s father; they are now divorced. She says she’s glad that someone besides her cares about the disappearance.

The person provided several tidbits of useful information. I’ve been able to confirm a little bit of it: she gives the name of the child’s mother and her current place of residence, for instance, and there is a woman by that name living in that town. In fact, she was arrested there in March.

She mentions court transcripts; I think I will ask to see them. I don’t want to post anything more specific about this because if she is telling the truth, what happened to that poor child is terrible. If she’s not telling the truth, I don’t want to defame the girls’ parents by posting things about them which are not true. But as it stands, for now, I believe her.

I’d rather not say at this point, though if you go back through my blog entries you could probably guess.

      Nope.

I have written to the girl’s stepmother and she promised to send documents to me to back up what she said. She sounds pretty broken up about it all.

Hello those inquiring. I am/was Jeanine C. Barnwell Debnam’s step mother and did a great deal of work on making sure her NCIC number stayed active, getting her onto NCMEC and some other items.
Jeanine became missing in Philadelphia about 3 weeks before her forth birthday, November 1985. I became active in her case in Jan., 1987 when I first started dating her father whom I married on November 27th 1987. He was from Philadelphia, I was from Washington DC and we resided in Wilmington DE (still do). He was awarded custody of Jeanine in 1986, almost a year after her disappearance. Prior to that time, it was difficult to keep her listed in Police Files as a missing person, her mother moved to North Carolina, presumed taking the child, not found out until she failed to appear in court.
It is difficult for many people to understand missing children. We once had what we prayed was a lead to finding her. She was positively identified in Texas, then moved to Hayward, CA. That turned out not to be her. However the Hayward police officer asked me why would we want to take her back because she appeared to be happy.
It over 2 years to keep her NCIC number (police issued to missing children/people), active to get her on NCMEC! By this time, she was already missing for 2 to 3 years! Precious time lost.
After doing my usual internet searches, thanks to more information being upload, files opening I found some additional information I will be forwarding to the police to check out.

Jeanine Camille Barnwell (Debnam) has a Sister who is 38, living in Philadelphia married with 6 nieces and nephews. A step-brother living in Virginia w/3 nephews, a half brother who lives with me in Delaware; A grandmother who would love to see her who is now 80 y/o, 2 uncles, an Aunt and cousins who would love to meet her! I use to buy birthday and Christmas presents, however after they started stacking up, I gave the items to charity. After all these years, information I have I still feel something is missing that I don’t have, besides Jeanine. I know I’ve become attached to a child who I never gave birth too, may have met 1 time and not when I was dealing w/her father however I have!

I hope this answers anyone’s questions. Please keep an eye on the poster in case someone should see the woman.

Thank you for posting Wanda, and for keeping the determination to find her. Do you know when the last time the PA police tried to interview her mother or her mother’s friends and family?

Is Jeanine entered into NamUs as well? If she’s not listed under Black and Missing, add her there as well and contact the CUE Center, KlaasKids and the like to get as many sites aware of her case.

I hope she will get to experience all the love her paternal side of her family has for her.

I hope she is found. I have a feeling that her race has something to do with such little attention, which is sad.
