A missing (dead) child

I just found this article (with video) about a rather unusual case: the body of a little girl has been stolen from her grave. No one knows who did it or why, but her family, understandably, would like it back.

Paula Ream had cerebral palsy and died at the age of nine, back in 1962. And now, 48 years later, someone robbed her grave. This was back in August. There’s been no sign of Paula since then, and the police have no leads and no witnesses.

File this under WTF.

“File this under WTF” – that’s funny!
I read that story earlier in the summer & had assumed it was either misguided teenagers pulling pranks/looking for attention, or goth kids looking for ritualistic spell casting necessities. I believe one of the articles speculated her grave was targeted cuz it was in the back corner of the cemetary, not easily seen by traffic, etc. Whichever the case, no haha about it – it is the ultimate form of disrespect to desecrate a resting place that way.

Strange. The same thing happend here in Norway too. I think it was in April. It was a five months baby boy who had died 3 weeks earlier. They never found him.

Not saying this is what happened, BUT what about this scenario: Someone killed her and it was presumed to have been natural causes. The person felt safe for a long time, until the advent of the use of DNA ,and has become increasingly nervous over the years. Then maybe the person heard something that made them so paranoid they either stole the body or had someone do it for them, thinking that no body means no possibility of being caught. If the person was 20 in 1962, they would be 68 now.

You could totally write a novel on that scenario.

    That is horrible.

What the hell is wrong with people? Does no one have respect for ANYTHING anymore? Sheesh.

The words “missing (dead) child” bring to mind Rob Zombie’s song “Living Dead Girl.” Intentional? Yes?

NAMUS has the case of Viola Findley missing from Iowa in sept of 1983

    • Meaghan November 3, 2010 / 6:51 pm

I know. She has no LE contact listed.

      • Betti January 8, 2011 / 12:18 pm

        Meaghan,
I have no LE contact Nr due to almost all the records being destroyed at the police Dept in Daytona Beach, Fl.
My mom filed the missing person report and after 10 years waiting for some word on my sister finaly had a peresumed certificate of Death issued. A Jane Doe was found not far from where my sister was last seen. The Jane Doe had been murdered and had been lying in the woods for over 10 years. I was contacted by Flagler County law enforcement who looked for my sisters information and no one at the volusia county office could find the file due to the case being closed because of the death certificate.. in 2009 after my mothers death I called FCSO and found out that the jane doe was still unidentified so we started from there, we found out that the MP file was destroyed while in storage. FCSO thought since my sister was in flagler county that maybe we should try for DNA. I found NAMUS told them the story and gave them the FCSO contact from there we got my sister put on Namus. Since then the Doe network also picked it up. I have not heard about the DNA test yet but hope to soon. I know that my Sister Disapeared form somewhere between Fl and Ia. There are no paper trails or sightings of my sister..

NAMUS also has William Guy Edmonds, missing from Iowa May 25, 2009

    • Meaghan November 3, 2010 / 6:52 pm

He has no LE contact either.

On NAMUS under Kansas they have a Bridget Pendell Williamson, Jennifer D Lancaster, Arnika Miller, Kayleigh Miller.

    • Tracey Reitterer November 4, 2010 / 1:07 am

Regarding Bridget Pendell Williamson – her sister Jacqueline Horne – another sad disgusting case where the police department’s hands are tied. A woman who dedicated her life to finding her lost sister, who also worked as a court advocate helping people GET OFF DRUGS & turn their lives around supposably “overdoses” and no one is prosecuted for it?? What about the prior junkie living in her home? The one police were called to her home about 5 times in a 6 month period – the same man whom, by all accounts, she was trying to get rid of – the same man who stayed at the hospital till she was admitted, & rather than waiting around to see if she would be ok, ran back to her house, (probably to hide the evidence) and lied to police about his identity, as well as refused to let police into HER home to conduct an investigation – AND POLICE CANT CHARGE HIM WITH HER DEATH???? “She overdosed while out on the deck smoking a cigarette.” Give me a frigging break. 2 years in prison for drug possession is not nearly long enough for this scumbag & murderer. Someone really needs to get ahold of prosecutor Brian DeVane to see why this guy isnt up on more serious charges in Jacqueline’s death. Circumstantial as tho the case may be, it certainly sounds like a strong one to me! Many prayers to this family for all they’ve had to endure.

On NAMUS under Kentucky they have Peggy S Ashley, Olive F Petty, Sandra K Travis, Janet Stephens-Brown

      • Jaime November 4, 2010 / 9:32 am

Sorry Meaghan. They them listed under a different state and what is it with no LE number. I thought NAMUS would require it to list a missing person to begin with. So they could avoid reporting/listing bad info for the public. Of course that can backfire requireing a LE case number, case in pint Tanya Rider. The media first refused to broadcast a missing notice for her because her husband couldnt file a missing persons report on his wife. 911 told him she didnt meet the criteria to be reported as a missing person.

    • forthelost November 3, 2010 / 8:31 pm

I think it would be more productive if you e-mailed these to Meaghan rather than commented on the blog.

    • Tracey Reitterer November 4, 2010 / 1:01 am

Peg Vinson’s co-worker & Sandra Travis’s husbands both need to have the crap beat out of them, then tortured until they talk & tell police where these women’s bodies are. Both delibertly lied to investigators in order to cover themselves & for that alone, they should be brought up on charges of hindering an investigation. I hate to hear stories like that where people go missing & the last known person to be with them has lied repeatedly & police can do nothing about it cuz people have too damn many civil rights. What about all the victims & their families – where are their rights??

I thought there was a more recent case-where the child was found in a River, I want to say in NY. I believe she was 5. I don’t get the stealing of a Body. I really would like to know wtf they are thinking, because I don’t get the mentality of doing something so gruesome. I don’t think it’s a Ritual though, too many people would have to know about her. On the other hand, just one person doing it makes it that more creepy. Honestly! What ever gave this ghoul the idea that this is in any way right? I hope she is put back where her loved ones intended her to be, at peace.

  13. Vanessa November 3, 2010 / 10:30 pm

That is a true WTF… who would DO such a thing, especially someone who’s been dead for so long?

  14. Zoe November 3, 2010 / 11:19 pm

I was thinking about it today packing away my sons halloween stuff, could someone be sick enough to want it as a halloween decoration? You never know …

  15. emilyy November 13, 2010 / 9:35 pm

“filed under “wtff””. — lol. that made me laugh. good one.
