A slight clerical error

I just got an email from a woman who claims she is listed on my website. She has been listed as missing under suspicious circumstances since 1982. She was only fifteen at the time. Assuming this is not a joke, it look like the MP report was closed long ago but somehow it accidentally found its way onto a missing persons database, where I grabbed it. I suggested the woman get in touch with the listed law enforcement contact.

She must feel kind of embarrassed. She’s married now, so hopefully acquaintances and future employers etc. will not be able to find out about this by Googling her name.

Is she only listed on your website, or is she listed on others like the Doe Network?

    • Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 4:59 pm

      She’s everywhere.

  2. John the Revelator October 22, 2009 / 1:35 pm

Another slight error: Everett Ruess’s remains are still unfound, as the “irrefutable” DNA results on the initial testing of the skeleton several months back proved entirely bogus.

    • Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 4:59 pm

Yeah, I saw that. Fooey. I’ll have to relist him. I’m not entirely surprised though; it sounded too good to be true.

      • John the Revelator October 22, 2009 / 6:22 pm

The convenience of the case’s “solving” coinciding with National Geographic Explorer’s tenth anniversary issue—they’d done a story on Ruess in their first number—strained credulity. The human element must always be factored in, no matter the lofty claims for the efficacy of DNA evidence.

So who is the lady that emailed you? Is she still on your sight?

    • Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 5:00 pm

Julie Terry. She’s still on my site right now, but I’m going to remove her next time I update.

  4. Vanessa October 22, 2009 / 5:20 pm

I think it’s hilarious that on the Doe Network they say foul play is suspected, and here she is alive and married 27 years later. I bet she gets a lot of weird questions from people that randomly look her up.

    • forthelost October 22, 2009 / 5:35 pm

Well, that’s why I tell people to look for a person and not a body.

  5. Justin October 22, 2009 / 5:41 pm

Julie Renae Terry is still on the CDOJ MPU website at http://dojapp.doj.ca.gov/missing/detail.asp?FCN=1860427400188 . The CDOJ took over the case from the Buena Park PD. As far as they are concerned, she is still missing and her NCIC number of M-534369876 is still active.

If her case was closed, law enforcement doesn’t know about it.

    • Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 5:44 pm

This is why I told her to get in touch with them.

This has happened before. Once a woman was listed as missing on the DOJ database like twenty years after her body was found, identified and buried. Somehow she’d wound up on the database anyhow, and no one knew until someone told me about them finding the body, and I told the DOJ, who removed her.

      • Justin October 22, 2009 / 5:47 pm

I asked for her NCIC number to be run alone. It is still active in the National System. This isn’t a case of her case being closed in LE and not taken out of the CDOJ because the investigating LE didn’t contact them.

  6. Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 5:48 pm

Well, hopefully this will get sorted out soon. I’ll wait and see what happens.
Perhaps this is someone’s idea of a joke, but I don’t think so.

    • Justin October 22, 2009 / 7:30 pm

Still, I would hold off on removing her profile from your site for a bit. If this is legit, then I am pretty sure her CDOJ will remove her from their website if she contacts them and can confirm her identity. If she is still up on the CDOJ website a couple of weeks from now, then I seriously doubt she is who she said she is.

      • Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 7:31 pm

Sounds like a good plan to me.

      • forthelost October 22, 2009 / 7:36 pm

The CDOJ site is notorious for leaving up people who have been found, though. There’s at least a dozen in the family abduction section alone. It’s otherwise a good database.

  7. Justin October 22, 2009 / 7:52 pm

My understanding is that it is supposed to be up to the local LE who is in charge of the missing person investigation to contact the CDOJ when they are recovered, but they don’t always get around to it, hence the recovered people still up on their site.

forthelost, if you know the names of the recovered missing persons who are still on the CDOJ website, how about sending them to me? My thing is to contact the LE by email and try to get MP not on the CDOJ website to send in their profiles to them. I have a form letter for that. I can also send emails to request that they contact the CDOJ to take them off if they have been found.

If you don’t want to put the names on this blog, send them to Meaghan. She knows who I am and can forward them to me. That is, if she is willing to do that.

    • Meaghan October 22, 2009 / 7:54 pm

      Of course I am willing.

      • Justin October 22, 2009 / 7:57 pm

        Cool. Thanks.

    • forthelost October 22, 2009 / 8:55 pm

I’ve done it in the past, but no removals have resulted.

      Here’s a partial list.

      Kayleen Brown
      Mirynda Brown
      Sita Burgess
      Shelby Cannon
      Edna Culbert
      Jadeah Culbert

      Diondre Hyatte
      Brian Jones
      Sofia Kabany
      Dustin Mansell
      Byron Ventura
      Ruby Ventura
      Maurice Ward

OK, I will get started emailing. Thanks for the list.

  8. Holly P. October 23, 2009 / 1:03 am

The Dept of Justice page comes up as “error” for me now. Can anyone else bring it up? I wonder if there has been some movement on this already…

  9. Justin October 23, 2009 / 1:16 am

Waitaminute. Hold on a second. She HAS been taken off the CDOJ website. I did the search and she was no longer there.

Looks like she was legit. Unless they took her off while they checked her out, but haven’t confirmed that she is who she said she is.

Meaghan, I guess you can take her off your site now.

    • Holly P. October 23, 2009 / 1:45 am

Yes – that page used to be one of the first in a google search for her, but now is nadda… Might have taken it down while they investigated, ran her prints or DNA, etc, or they were already able to clear it up that fast.

    • Meaghan October 23, 2009 / 10:51 pm

Because there is no LE contact listed.

  10. Lisa October 24, 2009 / 1:02 am

Thanks for answering! I didn’t notice that about no LE listed, wonder why…. I remember now that is one of your requirements. There was a thread recently about her on websleuths which made me think of her.

  11. Justin October 24, 2009 / 2:26 am

Regarding Charlotte Lewis, two years ago, I contacted Jerry Nance, her case manager with the NCMEC about her, which is how I got her NCMEC number which I submitted to the Doe Network. He said that he tries every six months to get her in the NCIC as a missing person, but they never do. He said if that ever happens, she will definitely get a webpage with the NCMEC.

  12. Justin October 24, 2009 / 2:29 am

    Charlotte Loomis. LOOMIS. Sorry.

  14. Valerie Toalino December 17, 2009 / 2:13 am

Meaghan, I´m writing in regards to the Hart Guillen case which I know personally. This child was never really abducted and has suffered tremendouly over the years with her baby photo and the abducted story in all those well-intentioned missing children websites. Please be kind and remove her name completely fom your website. God bless!

    • Meaghan December 17, 2009 / 12:37 pm

Where is her name still on my site?

    • roger October 20, 2011 / 2:58 pm

This guy Kenny kehr is a neighbor of mine. If you knew him the way my famaly does it would be to no surprise as to why julie has not contacted him. He has threatened family members with guns {check his name on san bernardino superior court open access defendant searrch} This guy is no doubt a person to stay away from. A very unstable creepy person. It doesnt surprise any of us in our neighborhood if someone would want to avoid this coward. Julie. has he stalked you in the past or threatened you also? God bless you and yours

      • Julie October 20, 2011 / 8:40 pm

No, he hasn’t. I don’t hear from him anymore.

  16. Kenny Kehr February 11, 2010 / 10:42 am

Hi Meghan, I Noticed Julie (emailed) You After I Called The Charly Project ? You Would Think That The Parent Would Have Contacted The Officials. Yha know I Never Heard Any Talk about The Father, As Though He Didn’t Exist. I Don’t Know If He Was Abusive. But The Family Always Appeared To Be Trying To Stay One Step Ahead Of Something. What Right Does Anybody Have To Exclude A Parent, Of A Child? Unless The Child Was In Danger. The Problem Is, Some People Are Very Selfish. Take A 15 Year old Teen, Who Runs Away, And Doesn’t Think Of All The Worry, And Hurt They Put In Peoples Heart, Or The Effort Of Law Enforcement, To Resolve The Issue. Well 28-29 Years Later, Guess Who Is Still Dealing With The Same Personality Of That 15 Year Old, Me. Only She’s Almost 44 Years Old, And Still That Same Selfish Person. What Crime Must I Have Committed, To Receive Life Without My Child? I Don’t Know, How Much Time Do People Get For Murder 7 Years? Well I’ve Done Almost 26 Years For Wanting A Family. How Selfish Is That? Thank You, Kenny !

  17. Julie September 1, 2010 / 2:39 pm

I’m Julie and the whole thing is a lie. My family was not running from anyone. I am not the awful person you made me out to be. Yes, some pretty traumatic things happened in my life and I ran away. But this time I was 17, scared and stupid and yes, I ran away again. But I did try to tell him about the baby. They now have contact with each other and I am glad. I’ve tried to find him as well all these years and have told Justin about him when he was little. No one has ever contacted me about Kenny including the SS office.

    • Meaghan September 1, 2010 / 3:05 pm

I don’t think you’re an awful person. This guy has been very persistent demanding to know your email addy etc. I won’t give it to him.

  18. kenny September 1, 2010 / 5:52 pm

26 years, and 42 days later I have found my son, and everything is good. Although the Charley project helps to conceal information, at the benefit of women, to exclude any rights of a father. This is the mother of my son which I love dearly me, and her have been through hell in our lives, and now we need to heal. I would hope you would remove all correspondence of us off the Charley Projects Web Site ! Thank You, Kenny Kehr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Response to “clerical error”

Are you referring to Charlotte Jean Loomis? If so, can you please clarify if you have had contact with her. I am a detective with the originating agency and would like to know if it is the same person.

    • Meaghan April 20, 2011 / 3:50 pm

      No, not Charlotte Loomis. Sorry.
