About

I am the sole webmaster/owner/creator/administrator/whatever of The Charley Project, one of the largest missing persons databases on the internet. I live and breathe missing people. On my website I only write the facts of a person’s disappearance, not what I think about it. But I can’t help forming opinions, about specific cases and about missing people in general, and that’s what this blog is for.

Hi my name is Chantelle Morin and I’ve created a website for my dear friend who lost her baby sister at Grundy Lake Park Ontario Canada, unfortunately there is no police record because they can’t find it for some reason. The only proof we have of her existence is the newspaper articles we have posted. Please visit our website http://www.dianeprevost.info for more information about her case.

How can we get her information listed on your site?

    Thank you for your time

LOCAL NEWS: Mother finds closure four years after her hiker son went missing

The remains of James Dutton, of Eugene, were found Aug. 24 in the Three Sisters Wilderness

By Saul Hubbard, The Register-Guard, SEPT. 3, 2016

Four years after he went missing, Cynthia Boucher now finally knows that her son, avid hiker James Dutton, died where he most liked to be.

Dutton’s skeleton was found Aug. 24 by a hiker about 100 feet off the French Pete Trail in the Three Sisters Wilderness, Boucher said Saturday. Dutton, who was 31 when he went missing in June 2012, was found near his backpack and two cans of bear spray, in the steep, heavily forested area. His pants were still on but his torso was bare. With no evidence of trauma or gunshot wounds, authorities suspect Dutton died of hypothermia, Boucher said.

“I didn’t think I’d live to see him found,” Boucher, who is 69, said. “I’m so truly blessed. It’s an answer to my prayers.”

Discovering that her son’s death does not appear to have been a violent one was a huge relief, added Boucher, who lives in Vancouver, Wash.

“I remember one time I was out (in the area he was found) and I was looking up at the trees. I thought ‘This is exactly where he would have wanted to be,’ ” she said. “Those trees are bigger and more beautiful than the spire of any church.”

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office didn’t respond Saturday to a request to confirm Boucher’s account. The office has not made any announcement about Dutton in the 11 days since he was apparently found.

The search for Dutton, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran who was studying alternative medicine in Eugene, got off to an inauspicious start. The single, unemployed man didn’t tell anyone he was going hiking in that rugged part of the Cascades. That meant the first search party didn’t get underway until six weeks following Dutton’s disappearance, after his truck was found at the French Pete trailhead. The permit slip in his vehicle indicated he was going on a three-day hike.

Dutton’s remains were found about four miles from the trailhead, Boucher said.

She speculated that Dutton “might have gotten tired and laid down.” Or he might have lost the trail in the dark, she said, while acknowledging that she’ll probably never know for sure.

But Boucher said that the discovery of Dutton’s skeleton brought her much-needed closure nonetheless. She thanked and praised the hiker who found him as well as Eugene detective Jeff Donoca who worked on Dutton’s case and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

“I can’t tell you how many times I saw the back of someone’s head in the supermarket and had to get a closer look because it looked like him,” she said. “I was always looking out for him. That never went away.”

Wow, that’s really sad. A mother’s worst fear, I’m so sorry. Glad she has a little closure. Thank you..

    • Meaghan February 25, 2009 / 8:25 pm

There’s been no update since 2006 because there’s nothing to update. I’ve received no additional information on her case.

      • Amy Stewart December 26, 2009 / 10:29 pm

Karen was my best friend from 3rd grade -6th grade and then I moved. She was so much fun and full of life. I was very fortunate to reconnect with her 1 month before her disappearance. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about her or her family. I wish this case would be reopened. There were a lot of things that could have been done differently by law enforcement and feel that things were definitely overlooked. My heart goes out to all who loved her.

    • Patti Libert August 23, 2021 / 3:12 pm

Please contact the Attorney General Office of your State. They specialize in cold cases. They also have authority over all law enforcement in your State. Their office posts photos of cold, missing, and homicide cases. You can email them and ask for help, or send tips on any case. Hope that helps.

Why are there no incident reports for your attack? I’m calling the dept. on Monday, and I think I know why.

  4. AL October 13, 2009 / 3:19 pm

Hi… I was recently reading about the disappearance Johnny Gosch and I found a website with a lot of information in regards to his disapearnce. Here is the website: http://www.johnnygosch.com/. What striking about this website is that they mention about a boy name Marc James-Warren Allen who disappeared within a two year period of Jonny Gosch and Eugene Martain, all from the same town. I look him up in your website and didn’t see much information about him, other than he left his home and never returned. My Suggestion is that these three boys or cases are similar to each other. The only difference is that, I think, Marc wasn’t a paper boy and the other two were. I thought you should link all three like you have Jonny and Eugene linked together.

    • Kim August 7, 2017 / 1:24 pm

Where was Danny Heinrich during this time? Take a look at Jacob Wetterling’s picture then look at Marc Allen and Johnny Gosch – there are similarities in their looks. Danny was in the National Guard during this time, but I cannot find if there was training in Iowa during the time of the boys’ disappearance. Just wondering if anyone has an idea or has looked at him as a possibility.

  5. Jerry February 11, 2010 / 9:49 am

I have a couple questions about a very old case, “Jimmy Wayne Wilson” he disappeared during an outing on a house boat at englebright lake in California, I know you only post the facts as they are provided, but your post lists his DOB as 10/06/54, its 10/16/54, and it states he walked away from the house boat leaving his two sons and a friend behind, it was his brother, his nephew (his brothers son) and Jimmy’s son. Yuba County Sheriffs office provided you the information. With that said, I would like to ask about an article that appeared in the Appeal Democrat regarding human remains that were found a few miles from where Jimmy disappeared, they were skeletal remains, and said the remains were a male, of about the same height, they stated the remains indicated that the victim appeared to have either ridden horses or motorcycles for much of his life, (Jimmy was slightly bow legged and walked with his heals together) there were two articles that appeared in the appeal democrat regarding these remains one on 10/25/08 the other on 1/8/09, there were so many significant simalities, but I have never been able to find out if the remains were identified, or if the two cases are connected, any suggestions.

    • jeff February 8, 2011 / 4:19 pm

I checked the two appeal democrat dates (10/25/08 and 1/8/09) in the microfilm on my lunch today. The two articles may not related to Jimmy Wayne Wilson. Wilson walked away from a houseboat on englebright. I thought he went missing at englebright lake (on the Yuba River). These two articles refer to skeletal remain found near the feather river in Sutter County (they were the le in charge of the investigation). Englebright lake is not near Sutter County, it borders Nevada County. Chico State archeologists conducted the study for the Sutter county remains. I am sure you could contact them to find out. I haven’t seen houseboats on the Feather for a very long time. It’s been at least 15 years since I saw anything that would resemble a houseboat on the Feather in Sutter/Yuba County besides the lakes of course.

    • Tamra May 22, 2011 / 3:02 am

Just curious – are you a relative of Jimmy’s? His brother, Jerry, who was the one with him at the time of his disappearance died previous to your posting, so I’m wondering who “Jerry” is that has posted this question. Thanks.

    • Tamra July 8, 2014 / 3:34 pm

In reply to the poster, Jerry, above. I am still curious if you are a relative of Jimmy’s? You obviously have a lot of knowledge of Jimmy based on your message. Thank you!

I noticed when doing a search for New Hampshire (where I live) on this site that two cases both had anonymous letters sent from locations in New Hampshire. New Hampshire is a very small state, so the letters could be related to each other.
One From New Bedford NH in Oct 2000 for Markovich, the other from Manchester NH in Feb 2001 for Orsborn, both detailing possible murder and appox. burial locations. Other similarities; the girls were both 15 at the time, and both girls were 5’2″, both went missing during spring months.

The police should compare the two letters to see if they may have been sent by the same person, I feel it is at least worth looking into.

  11. Nikki LaDue January September 16, 2011 / 11:19 am

There is a person leaving messages on many of the missing or mysterious deaths on the internet. On you site she appears as Kim Scott. She called the Nikki LaDue January Tip line last night and left 3 long messages similar to what is on your site. Is there anything you can do to stop this malicious behavior?

    • Meaghan September 16, 2011 / 5:16 pm

      I don’t think it’s “malicious.” I think she’s just mentally ill.

  12. J West October 5, 2011 / 11:19 am

I just finished “We Is Got Him” about the Charley Ross case. I really enjoyed it. Probably nothing new except the author points out discrepancies in the number of Mosher’s children and perhaps Charley was hidden among them for awhile.

    Hi
I’ve just found your blog by random route and am trying to figure out if it can help me. My son went missing in New Zealand in 1992 – we have his website at http://www.qismissing.com
I’d be so pleased if you could add his name – Quentin Godwin – to your site – the wider we spread the word the more slim chance of getting some news.
    Many thanks
    Sarah Godwin

    • Meaghan October 31, 2011 / 12:40 pm

Unfortunately my site only covers U.S. missing people. But I can make a blog entry for Quentin. Have you contacted the Doe Network? I think they do NZ cases.

  14. docgod October 31, 2011 / 12:50 pm

    Hi Meaghan
Thanks so much for your instant reply and for all the work on behalf of missing people and their families. I’ll contact the Doe network immediately but if you can post a link to our website it’d be just so good.
    Thanks again
    Sarah

Any idea how many resolved cases turn out to be foul play vs not?

Also how many do ultimately get resolved over various time frames vs not? Anything that helps get resolution? (potentially your site)

    • Meaghan December 1, 2011 / 11:40 pm

I don’t keep those statistics, but you’re welcome to poke around in the resolved section.

  17. DW January 26, 2012 / 11:44 pm

As I am being drawn into the world of missing people following one of you cases (on this very objective website – although not all of the participants are objective) I am perplexed by the following question that you may have insight on. Are there more missing people or more unidentified remains – John and/or Jane Doe’s. What does it mean if there are mor lost or mor found people? And what is the potential overlap?

    • Meaghan January 27, 2012 / 1:56 am

I don’t know the answer to your question. I can tell you that a lot of people who disappear are never actually reported missing — usually adults who have a tendency to wander, either do to substance abuse or mental illness issues or just their personalities. Sometimes these people are called the “missing missing.”

  18. Maytruthprevail January 27, 2012 / 12:39 pm

Hello, I have a website concerning the missing child Trenton Duckett. I have researched this case for over 5 years and have been publishing public documents obtained from FDLE and various law enforcement agencies, as well as personal letters, interviews and pictures pertaining to the investigation. It is my opinion that LE has been looking in the wrong direction, and were very short sighted in believing that Melinda Duckett was the prime suspect. In your article you stated that no one saw Trenton Duckett alive since Friday August 25, 2 days before he went missing. The grandparents Nancy and Billy Eubank spent the most part of Saturday with Melinda and Trenton and on Sunday at approximately 11:30 am there were two witnesses who testified they saw Trenton with Melinda at Wendy’s Restaurant and passed a polygraph. Also Melinda’s cell phone pings put her in that exact area on Sunday at that exact time. However, the tainted Leesburg Police Department (Richard Giles, detective now retired and “busom buddy” of Team Trenton leader Laurie Konnerth) adamantly refused to accept this information as credulous, as this did NOT support the police theory that Melinda staged the abduction and hid Trenton from his father. One of my over 100 articles is titled “Who Took Trenton- Part Two”. This article contains documents and pictures, as well as Melinda Duckett’s statement as to whom she believed took Trenton. The website is http://www.duckettbucket.blogspot.com. I am putting out as much info on this case that I can hoping that readers can help solve this crime, bring Trenton home, and put the bad guys in jail so that Melinda may rest in peace.

  19. Billy Leeth January 29, 2012 / 8:15 pm

My name is Billy Leeth and I live in Tuscumbia,Alabama. My daughter went missing on Oct 17th 2011. I seached for her for nearly 2 months before her mutilated remains were found, and so far 3 people have been arrested with her murder and a 4th will be indited in connection to the murder.During the time I searched for my daughter Amanda Taylor ,I created a Face Book Page called Our Daughter Amanda Taylor Is Missing in efforts to get the word out about her missing.Face Book has turned out to be a great tool as I was able to get her name in front of thousands of people. You see we could not get the media to cover her story. As a result of my daughter’s missing and murder we at Our Daughter Amanda Taylor Is Missing’s page have started a nationwide petition for an alert system for missing adults calling it Amanda Alert For Missing Adults. We have this petition linked on our Face Book Page. Again the name of the page is Our Daughter Amanda Taylor Is Missing.

    • Meaghan March 16, 2012 / 6:50 pm

I just haven’t gotten to it yet. I have round about 60 NamUs updates waiting to be processed, not counting other updates that don’t come from NamUs. I’ll do it though.

    • Putting a name to Doe’s in NM December 29, 2019 / 12:33 pm

If Terrie Lynn Hefner’s kin see this please please look into Dona Ana County Jane Doe 1985-1861. I have contacted Dona Ana County Sheriffs office about a potential match.

I feel it really could be Terrie. Dental x rays show a chipped front tooth and bump on nose among other characteristics.

    Hi Meaghan
I’m a Swedish documentary film maker who presently is doing research for a film about people who have chosen to disappear. I’m aware that this kind of cases are not the main purpose of your website, rather missing people, but since you seem to be an absolute enyclopedia in disappearing cases I thought I could perhaps at least ask.
I am looking for people who have chosen to “disappear”, change identity, life, location. I am fully aware of the fact that the people who still are gone, I will not be able to get in contact with. But I know there are people who have reappeared – either because they have been found by someone, or they have reemerged/come back. I’m interested in finding people who have been gone for at least more than a year.
You probably come to think of many such cases, and I don’t know if there are any cases that you feel stand out. Perhaps there is someting about the reason they chose to try to disappear, or the way they came back, or that they didn’t abandon (or have) a family they left behind.
Would really apreciate any suggestions you might have.
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions for me,
    Best regards
    Jesper

My brother is one who would fit the bill here, so to speak. He chose to run away in 1975 as a 15 year old in Texas
and is still missing today. I am currently researching public records to find him but he has done a good job of staying missing. His birth name is Rogelio Realme Cerda- once had Jesus as a first name but that was removed. I have no idea when or why but I am younger than him so a lot does not make sense to me.

    Dear Meaghan,

First I want to say thank you for all of the great work you are doing with the Charley Project.

I have a question about Charlotte Moriarty. You have both her and her son, Marx Barnes, listed under your resolved cases. For Charlotte, you wrote, “Charlotte was apparently located as well, although this has not been confirmed.”

None of the articles I have read about Marx/Steve Carter mentioned anything about Charlotte being found. I was wondering where this information came from? And, since it is unconfirmed, would you consider relisting her? A blog entry about this would be really interesting.

    Best wishes,

    Deb

    Hello, Meaghan.

I have a bit more information on Irene Mathewson, the 69 yo woman who disappeared Sept 30, 1985 in South Miami. She was the baker at an elementary school at the time. I was her manager and friend. I still get emotional every year around the time of her disappearance, which occurred right after my birthday. I’d like to share a bit more, but not via this format. Please contact me to discuss this strange and disturbing event.

Once again, I’m getting ready to email Meaghan to see if she’d heard about Linda Pagano. But, learning from my last “breaking news,” I check CP, and of course she has it. Four months ago. Girl, you are amazing. I don’t know how you keep up so well, but keep it up. You’re doing an AMAZING service for these lost souls, and their families. CP is one of my favorite sites. Much love to you!!!

You should consider updating Brian Joseph Page who disappeared on January 12, 1975. Here is a link containing info posted by his brother.

His brother gives details about the night of his disappearance.

Hi! There is a young lady missing in El Dorado, AR named Ieshia Nicole Jackson. She was last seen the night of November 4, 2020 as a friend returned Ieshia home after being out of town. At the time of her disappearance she was 22. She has since had a birthday making her 23. There are not many details in her case aside from her door was found ajar and her cell phone was found at home. She told relatives her home has been broken into recently and that it has happened more than once.

Rodney Alcala (serial killer/ executed 7-2021) had a large photography file of unidentified women. Two of the more recent featured photos are Julie Cunningham of Vail,CO (both head-shoulders: one front, leopard print jacket; one rt. profile, light tan t-shirt). I called CBI Missing-Persons. *(her long term outdoor-sports had slightly weathered her features, since high school)*

Hi, Meaghan – I so appreciate the work you put into this site. Tonight I noticed that Lois Marta Darnopuk(2028DFNY) is no longer missing per NamUs. No further information is available. She’s still listed as missing on Charley.

    Several more:

It looks like the body of Gina Renee Hall (2147DFVA), who went missing on June 28, 1980, was found in 2016 and identified, per NamUs.

Thomas Redd Evans(4390DMNY) is no longer missing per NamUs.

Mark Alan Austin (5359DMAR) went missing on May 28, 2019- His remains were found on November 30, 2020.

Cynthia Elaine Coover(860DFCA) is no longer missing per Law Enforcement. No further information is available.

Paul Frank Dravidzius (1547DMCA) went missing in 1994 and he passed away in 2011.

Eric Rodney Hill(882DMCA) is no longer missing per Law Enforcement. No further information is available.

These came from the Doe Network Located and Identified persons list as of today.

I hope I am not being annoying! I noticed one of these was still listed with you and decided to just check the rest. I don’t know HOW you possibly can keep up with all these cases. Been reading your site for years, so thought I would possibly help.

Hey! I’ve seen your website and blog mentioned before, and I finally came to check it out. What you’ve done is incredible. I wanted to ask if you’ve seen the missing person’s case (presumed dead) of Everett Ruess, and if you would consider adding it to the database, even though his case is well known and he’s been missing since 1934. This is his file from Namus, https://namus.nij.ojp.gov/case/MP53417.

Thank you for helping families by posting their missing loved ones! I know family members and friends spend their lives searching for answers.

There is a Facebook account for information on missing person Dawn Young. It is:
    https://www.facebook.com/youngdawn2005

Can you add it to Facebook Pages? Maybe someone out there will be able to provide more information to her family.

Hey! I don’t know if you check this much but maybe you’ll see my comment.

I got an ad about this https://www.finddavidhall.com/ today. I’m unsure if it is legitimate, but it looks like it. Very fishy circumstances. This is a man whose last sighting is digital only. He was a bit of a loner with possible mental issues, and he apparently disappeared from Hilo, Hawaii in 2019. Related is this: https://bigislandthieves.com/missing-youth-and-adults-on-the-big-island/missing-people-on-the-big-island/. This is a local website with information about missing people from Hilo, Hawaii.
