Has the real Paul Fronczak been found? I’m uncertain.

So earlier this week there was an article on from a Las Vegas news outlet saying Paul Fronczak, the one that was stolen from the hospital as a newborn in 1964, has been located and is living in Michigan. The article promised more information later.

(The case is incredibly complicated and I recommend you check out Paul’s casefile on Charley. In a nutshell:

Paul was stolen from a Chicago hospital on April 27, 1964, just 36 hours after birth, by a woman who has posed as a nurse and has never been identified. In late 1965 an abandoned toddler was found wandering around a Newark, New Jersey store and was thought to be Paul Fronczak. There was no DNA testing available at the time to prove this definitively, but baby Paul’s parents accepted him as theirs and raised him.

In 2012, however, a DNA test established that this man was NOT actually the biological child of Mr. and Mrs. Fronczak. Not-Paul, as I call him, enlisted help from a genetic genealogist, and in 2015 he was identified. He and his twin sister were born into an abusive family, and shortly after they turned two, both twins disappeared and their three siblings were warned to never speak of them again. Their disappearances were never reported.

Not-Paul has published a book about all this, titled The Foundling: The True Story of a Kidnapping, a Family Secret, and My Search for the Real Me. I own a copy on Kindle but haven’t read it yet.)

Getting back to the report that the real Paul has been found… well, it’s been several days and there’s no further information released. Furthermore, that article I linked to above is the ONLY article I can find that talks about this alleged recovery. You’d think this would be explosive news that would make headlines all over the world, but nope.

Even if the actual Paul didn’t want his identity released, you’d think there’d still be something printed like “Paul now lives in a small town in Michigan and works as a Blank. He began having doubts about his origins because Reasons. His presumed abductor raised him as her own son and is now deceased. He would like his privacy respected at this time.” SOMETHING.

I’m beginning to wonder if this “recovery” was a hoax. Though, for what it’s worth, baby Paul isn’t listed on the NCMEC site anymore.

I really don’t know; the whole thing is very puzzling to me. Any ideas?

No ideas I saw the same news headline and story and have been looking for follow up story they promised, still nothing.

  2. Amber December 14, 2019 / 8:26 pm

I’m wondering the same as you!! However, George Knapp, the reporter originally covering the story, posted it to his twitter. And his post is still there. https://twitter.com/g_knapp/status/1205017853910376448
So, I’m leaning to believe it’s true. Possibly the news station has exclusivity to the news story and/or is waiting for the authorities to release info first before airing further info… I guess time will tell!

I doubt she’d announce it without proof.

So they found Crystal Dawn Morrison’s remain ! Her case was one of the most puzzled mystery for me, did some one pick her up ? did she just wandering away? Why did she not wait for her ride? I wish LE could find out her cause of death

    • marsyao December 14, 2019 / 9:28 pm

I wonder how far between her workplace and where her remains were found

    • Meaghan December 14, 2019 / 9:37 pm

It’s unlikely they can determine the cause of death from skeletal remains, unless there’s evidence of violence like cut marks.

      • marsyao December 14, 2019 / 9:53 pm

The distance mattered here, she felt sick that day, so I don’t think she could walk very far, if her remains were found miles away from her wok place, then I would suspect foul play

My thoughts are that this isnt a hoax. I dont think Cece Moore would post an announcement unless she was absolutely positive. Most likely even is that she was actually involved in finding him as she also helped NotPaul find his real identity. As far as why it hasn’t been picked up by all media outlets I think because this was just a preliminary announcement with very little info. I’m sure when and if the Real Paul comes forward we are going to see it be picked up. My hunch is that they must of uploaded Paul’s Mother’s DNA on all DNA sites (ancestry/23&me/myheritage/gedmatch and they most likely got a high match possibly Paul himself or maybe even a child or grandchild of his. On a side note I myself was able to find the identity of my mothers unknown father using genetic genealogy, a 74 year old mystery solved 🙂

As Paul, was kidnapped from a Chicago hospital, it should be something that the media here in Chicago would jump on. Also,a woman known as the “Welfare Queen”, was considered a person of interest in his kidnapping. She was known to bring home or borrow children as ways of requesting public aid.

There were numerous articles published in the Chicago Tribune back in those days about her activities.

I remember this story as a child.. with the creepy pictures of the “nurse” in the Chicago Tribune.. then so many years later reading and seeing the presumed Paul online and with a 20/20 special sharing his story.

This whole new real Paul story is certainly puzzling.. The local Michigan story is STILL the only one posted, along with CeCe Moores FB post. When I first googled, it showed a WGN ( Chicago Station)link about this, but then when I clicked on it, the story had been removed.. I can only presume because they were skeptical, no good sources to back up?

But I know Ce Ce Moore has spent a great deal of time helping the presumed Paul with his new family and like someone else stated, I can’t imagine her posting without some proof this is real.. There has been no mention on the presumed Pauls, Who is Paul Fronczak? FB page.

My thoughts are they found the real Paul through DNA testing positively identifying him at Cora and Chesters son. And it might not have even been him who tested.. possibly one of his children. Then.. if he was raised by his kidnapper.. chances are the real Paul never knew he was “adopted”

Then what if the mother who brought him up is still alive?? A very real possibility.. even if she wasn’t the kidnapper, she obviously got him illegally. And if she was the kidnapper… the only person he knew as mom , who is now elderly, is in a whole lot of legal trouble.

**** This is only MY theory**************

    • Meaghan December 15, 2019 / 5:52 pm

At the time, it was possible, and not all that uncommon, for people to basically buy children in semi-legal “adoptions” arranged through a broker, often an attorney or a doctor. Most of the times the birth mother voluntarily surrendered the child, but there were examples of babies and toddlers being stolen. Often these stolen children were taken from poor families who couldn’t afford to fight back, or the birth parents were told the child died. Google Georgia Tann, if you haven’t heard of her already.

If Baby Paul was kidnapped for adoption purposes, his adopters may have been under the impression that his birth mother voluntarily surrendered him.

      • Marcia Boyce December 18, 2019 / 11:27 am

Yes.. I know all about Georgia Tann and Dr Hicks who sold up to 200 babies.. she worked in a children’s home and he delivered babies.. both are horrible stories.. but in my opinion, the Paul Fronczak story is very different. A person posing as a nurse kidnapped the baby.

This whole finding the real Paul.. now a week old.. IS very strange.. even if he wanted to keep his identity private, being a federal felony of kidnapping and a major story on 20/20 and other places, I am very surprised that nothing has been updated in a week.

I agree with you. Not only is this an emotional upset for the real Paul, it also has to be a real legal nightmare as well. Undoubtedly the FBI is involved and can account for much of the silence.

  8. Patrick Kerrigan December 15, 2019 / 9:46 pm

Meaghan, your mention of Georgia Tann, stole my thunder. I agree with you that the members need to read about she did and the others that supported her from nurses and the government officials. She was considered an expert on adoptions. She was even supported by Eleanor Roosevelt, the 1st Lady.

It’s a disgrace what she did. Also, the children that died under her care, or became slaves working on farms or used by pedophiles.

I am reading Thomas E. Messick Sr’s case, what kind of morons would leave an 82 years old with poor hearing and vision alone in the woods ?

    • Meaghan December 16, 2019 / 5:18 pm

He’d been hunting in those woods all his life. I doubt they gave it much thought.

      • marsyao December 16, 2019 / 5:29 pm

I know, but still think of these: 82 year old, poor hearing and vision, a bad back and a history of heart problems recovering from shingles, these morons had no excuse

      • Meaghan December 16, 2019 / 5:30 pm

Have you ever tried telling an independent old man he’s too old to do something by himself anymore? From what I’ve heard that tends to make them pretty mad.

I’m sure they deeply regret their decision to let him hunt alone and would do anything to take it back.

      • marsyao December 16, 2019 / 7:35 pm

Meaghan, I got your point, still if I was one of them, I will follow the old man closely, regarding of regret, I am not that sure, because I don’t know them

  10. Lisa J. Fitzgerald December 17, 2019 / 12:21 am

I asked someone who posted about it on CeCe Moore’s website when further information will be made available and she thought this Thursday.

  11. J. Leon December 17, 2019 / 4:23 am

Sorry, but to me this Fronczak thing stinks to high heaven. If it were real I think we’d have been more likely to hear about it first from law enforcement after it was thoroughly vetted. just as we did with Jaycee Dugard and the Cleveland girls. But, we shall see.

And in other missing persons news, Charlie Manson has company in hell. Lawrence Bittaker has bitten the big one:

    https://apnews.com/5bfce303157fd237b2e7fae0f3eff780

May his surviving partner now find the grace to give up the bodies of Andrea Hall (http://charleyproject.org/case/andrea-joy-hall) and Lucinda Schaefer (http://charleyproject.org/case/lucinda-lynn-schaefer).

And when is California finally going to get real when it comes to capital punishment? More than 700 death row inmates and only a handful of executions since reinstatement. Either start sticking needles into arms or commute everyone to life without parole. At the rate they’re going they’ll all die of natural causes first anyway.

    • T.T. December 17, 2019 / 7:17 pm

Yes, all while eating away at taxpayer’s money. Now *I* don’t live in California, but it still burns me up. Like I’ve always said, being sentenced to death in the state of California is the equivalent of being thrown down a bottomless pit that’s only three feet deep.

      • Meaghan December 17, 2019 / 8:22 pm

I think there’s an official moratorium on executions in California now. It doesn’t really change the situation since they haven’t actually executed anyone since 2006.

  12. Vincent December 18, 2019 / 9:34 am

Oh for heavens sakes, perhaps we do-gooders were duped into thinking this Paul Fronczak identification was for real. I was so excited. Several times per day I searched online for more news. Nothing. It’s so strange, because typically Cece Moore is very reliable. Maybe someone impersonated her.

    • Meaghan December 18, 2019 / 9:41 am

Ima wait till tomorrow; some people are saying something more is expected to come out about this on Thursday.

  13. Patrick Kerrigan December 18, 2019 / 10:47 am

It could be that law enforcement, specifically the Chicago Police Department, should be part of this. Also, I am sure, that the family needs to deal with the information that their missing son is alive. A lot of stuff to deal with after all these years.

Also, if he is the real son, he has to deal with he has been told by whoever raised him. It takes time and questions to be answered.

  14. Vincent December 19, 2019 / 9:33 am

Long-lost reunions, family relations to mend, criminal acts for the authorities to sort out…. and of course book deals/television deals/etc. to negotiate. Camera crews to round up, makeup to be applied, the big date to be set for the world to see…. Lots of stuff to organize.

    • Vincent December 19, 2019 / 10:23 am

I wonder what Dora will wear for the big Dateline special? Probably a pale blue flowery dress.

      • Meaghan December 19, 2019 / 10:25 am

I’m very sorry Paul’s father didn’t live to know about this.

I hope Paul recovers from his cancer and lives a long life and develops a close relationship with his biological family. I understand this will take time and I hope they all get good therapy.

I’m sure there will be a book, a few documentaries, probably a podcast or three.

  15. Vincent December 19, 2019 / 10:39 am

It will be very interesting to learn about the circumstances of Real Paul’s abduction & “adoption.” Is his fake mother still alive? Who is/was she? His fake Father? How did he come to live with his fake parents? And what will happen to his fake parents, if one or both of them happens to still be alive? Will they go to prison? Will Real Paul plead to the court for leniency at their sentencing hearings?
