I got my days mixed up; for some reason I thought Tuesday was Monday. That’s why my missing person of the week is a day late. Anyway, this week it’s Kayla Marie Welcome, a 23-year-old woman who disappeared from St. Cloud, Florida on May 7, 2015.
She’s of white and Puerto Rican descent and has several tattoos, though I don’t have any descriptions for them. I do have a photo of part of one of the tattoos, which is on Kayla’s thigh. I think it’s a word starting with C and the second letter is probably an H but I can’t guess any further than that.
I don’t know much about Kayla’s disappearance, but I do know she has a history of drug use and an arrest record for the same. She may have traveled to Uncasville, Connecticut after she went missing. If still alive, Kayla would be 28 today.
Florida has a serious cocaine and heroin epidemic. No idea why they open so many rehab centers out there of alll places…
Because it has a serious cocaine and heroin epidemic. Lots of addicts there. And lots of other people that like the idea of doing their rehab in a warm sunny place.
Kind of. They also, along with California, have an issue with people coming in from out of state for rehab, and having no way home once insurance cuts them off and rehab kicks them out.
A lot of these facilities are opened with the intention of taking addicts in, then dumping them. They’ll actually pay the more functional addicts for every person they persuade to go there.
It’s one of the major spurs for the increase in homelessness in those states.
That’s really sad.
In summer 2018 my boyfriend and I let a guy stay with us, a former roommate and childhood friend of my boyfriend’s who had become homeless. I don’t know if he was actively using drugs but he had before, and I noticed he had a lot of serious problems, including chronic dishonesty and a tendency to use people, that seem to be characteristic of addicts.
He left after only two or three weeks. We had been basically the only people left in his life who hadn’t given up on him, but in the end it was he who turned away from us. You can’t help people who don’t want help. As of last December he was in jail facing two to ten for selling meth. Maybe prison will sort him out.
Is there any information that would indicate if Kayla had any family connection to Connecticut.
It could be that someone she did drugs with was from Connecticut, told her to come visit. Also, there is a major concentration of people from Puerto Rico in the New York City area.
I checked a road atlas at home and found that Uncasville, is just up the road from my old stomping grounds, the U.S. Navy Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut, also known as “Rotten Groton”. Yes, I served on a nuclear powered attack submarine, better known among some of us as a long black sewer pipe.
However, life on board was a lot better, then the guys who served on U-boats during WW II. I also volunteer at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago in the U-505 exhibit.
So it begs the question as to her or someone in her family having a connection to that area of Connecticut. Maybe someone in her immediate family was from there.
Well, I did some further research and came across two addresses in Connecticut. One at 96 Depot Road, in Uncasville. It seems from further research that a Kimberly Welcome possibly 47 to 49 years old is living or has lived at that address.
Is Kimberly her mom. It would explain her going to Uncasville. Kimberly has lived at a number of addresses in Norwich, Ct. Infact it appears that one website identifies a Kayla M. Welcome as a possible relative. However, two websites show Kayla as living at 2630 Milton Avenue in Kissimmee since about February 2014.
Didn’t Kayla disappear at age 24, not 23? Her birthdate is March 23, 1991 on the case file and she went missing May 7, 2015. That’s 24 years…?
Also it appears she had a Facebook page. It appears thar she is originally from Hartford, Connecticut. But it appears that she was currently living in Kissimmee, Florida.
So, it would make sense for her to return to Connecticut, where I assume she has family. But, then I wonder who reported her missing. Also where the information came from that she was in Uncasville.
