Series from the Oklahoman on the Logan Tucker case

I wanted to call the reader’s attention to this excellent (and very sad) special series called Looking for Logan Tucker, about the disappearance and presumed murder of six-year-old Logan Lynn Tucker eighteen years ago at the hands of his sorry excuse for a mother, Katherine Rutan.

Most homicides of children by their parents are unintentional, a situation where the parent is frustrated and unable to cope with child care, loses control and kills the child in a rage. Although there are no witnesses to Logan’s murder and Katherine isn’t talking, his death doesn’t appear to have been one of those kinds of homicides. She thought Logan was a burden to her life, and decided to get rid of him, so she killed him. Period.

She sounds like a stone cold psychopath. There was evidence of disorder in her life long before Logan’s death — she was married four times by her mid-twenties, for example — and she had repeatedly told people that she considered her two sons a burden to her and wanted to get rid of them.

In the final days of Logan’s life, Katherine made increasingly frantic attempts to offload Logan, and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services did plan to take him within the next several days, but Katherine didn’t want to wait that long, I guess.

She is in prison and will probably die there, but continues to maintain her innocence.

Anyway, it’s a great piece of journalism, that series, and I wanted to recommend it to y’all.

Yeah, just at the beginning of the article, “The woman wanted to be loved again. With her chestnut hair, blue eyes and bright smile, she easily attracted men. Keeping them was the hard part.

Katherine Rutan was 27 years old. She had run through four husbands, lived with other men, and had two young sons by different fathers.”

Poor Justin. I’m sure he has had to deal with a lot of survivor’s guilt. I hope he’s gotten therapy.

I mean, I understand that she did not want these two kids (I mean both of them), looks like she thought her children were the reason she could not live the life she wanted, but she did not have to kill her children, she could give up custody of them and let DHS to take them which she actually already started the process, she only need to wait a few more days. And besides, for all we know, she did not abuse Justin.
So I would think she must hate Logan’s father, a hate goes so extreme that it extend to Logan, poor child

Wow. That woman definitely deserves to die in prison. But how could CPS let her keep those kids? Especially after she tried to get rid of Logan so many times? She literally told them that she wanted to hurt Logan. And they gave her appointments instead of taking the kids away? Was there any kind of overhaul of the child protective services in that area? Katherine is a psychopath. But many people dropped the ball while Logan should have been protected.

That was my feeling… she told them she didn’t trust herself not to hurt him. Even then, when mental illness wasn’t taken as seriously as it is now, that admission should have warranted an immediate removal from her “care.”

we always need to remember the admission dealt with large amount of similar cases, in which many parents may claim they could harm their children if authority does not take their child away immediately, but they actually did not harm to their children afterward, their motive may simply just be trying to get rid of their child as soon as possible for whatever reasons. After having so many similar, it may explain the lack of sense of emergency from the authority

        That’s a good point, Marsyao.
