MP of the week: Mohan Vellanki

The first missing person of the week in 2019 is Mohan Chandra Vellanki, a 23-year-old who disappeared from Kent, Ohio on May 18, 1985. Unfortunately I can’t find doodly squat on his case; it’s a “few details are available” one.

Happy New Year to everyone! For me, in spite of my brother’s death in February, 2018 was a pretty good year.

It would be nice if the police could have obtained more basic information on this young man. I wonder if her was attending college, or working. Also, did he come from this area. Was he working.

This is odd. The “Kent Stater” archives are searchable on-line and a search for “Vellanki” brings up nothing. Assuming he was a student or teacher at Kent State University, there should be something to see. There is coverage of student Judy Martins who disappeared on 05/24/1978.

Jennifer, thanks for checking that resource. So maybe he was not connected to the school. It bothers me that the authorities did not provide more details.

I would be digging for more details. Was he born here, or came here with hus family. What was he doing for a living. But then it was many years that he disappeared. It was okay for adults to disappear many years ago.

There is a Mohan Vellanki who graduated from Hoover High School in North Canton, OH in May 1980 according to The Akron Beacon Journal (May 27, 1980) and the time frame of his age fits in perfectly – 18 when graduated. Quite possibly the same guy who went missing in 1985.
