They apparently got DNA for him, so I don’t think his case should technically be closed. (They did remove Noel Davis, though.)

After I read your guy’s comments on Melvin Charles Horst, I googled more on the story. I saw an article where his sister still wonders what happened. And then….well, I feel foolish even posting this. There is a story on reddit’s No Sleep. That’s a subreddit where the story can be true, or it can be fictional, but it is also treated as true within the sub. So I read this story on No Sleep expecting it to be fictional, except there are pictures posted. A lady had a closed off fireplace in her apartment and she investigated. A vent was filled with newspaper clippings about Melvin Horst. Anyways, I’ll put a link to the story:
Nosleep is for stories. It’s not intended to be real, but the policy there is to act as if all stories are true.

Yes, I am aware, as you can see from my post above, I stated ” That’s a subreddit where the story can be true, or it can be fictional, but it is also treated as true within the sub.” I am aware the stories are fictional, and most are….I am also aware that they are treated as true by policy in the sub. However, one minor point, they are also allowed to be true. This is a quote from their FAQ:
“Are the stories here true?
While you’re in /r/NoSleep, everything is true. Outside of NoSleep, a story may be fact or may be fiction. The important thing is that while you’re here, treat everything as though it is a true recount of events.”https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/1utppd/frequently_asked_questions_of_nosleep/
That is what I was getting at. The woman posted a large amount of pictures with the story, of the fireplace with the newspaper clipping about Melvin Horst. That is what I am driving at…did she post the pictures to make the story seem more authentic? If it is indeed a fictional story, I personally thought that to be in poor taste, but that’s neither here nor there. Or, since she was telling a story about thinking a child’s body was in the fireplace, and took pictures of the newspaper clippings and there was a clipping about Melvin Horst included, I wondered if it actually is a true story, not just photos added to make it seem more authentic.
Melvin Horst is on NCMEC and has an AP to what would be his current age (94). I mean, that’s not an impossible age, but still…
Holy crap!

If it’s fictional, I think that’s kind of in poor taste. If it’s a true story….kind of makes me wonder.
Oh, also there is a Melvin Horst at find a grave. but I would presume it’s a case of somebody else with the same name. This Melvin was born in 1919:
