In honor of Pride Month I’m featuring a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer missing person every day for the month of June. Today’s case is Jim Craig Martin, a 39-year-old gay man who disappeared from the tiny town of Normangee, Texas on August 6, 2007.
It really doesn’t look good for Jim: two days after his disappearance, his car was found abandoned and burned-out in Centerville, a town about 25 minutes from Normangee. Curiously, in spite of this the police refused to accept a missing persons report until August 15. Perhaps they hadn’t connected the burned car to him yet.
In 2017, the Texas Rangers advertised a $3,000 reward for information to help solve the case. This reward offer is still open. Per the Texas Rangers: “Numerous leads have been investigated in which Martin was killed and his body possibly disposed of in rural area of Leon, Madison or Brazos County. Texas. Rangers and local investigators have conducted interviews with witnesses and possible suspects in an effort to solve the disappearance and likely murder of Martin.”
