Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Mohammed Alghannam

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, I am profiling one Asian or Pacific Islander MP for every day of the month of May. Today’s case is Mohammed Abdulmohsen Alghannam, also known as Mo, who disappeared from New Orleans on March 28, 2015, at the age of 25.

Mo is from Saudi Arabia and was in New Orleans on a student visa at the time of his disappearance, studying mechanical engineering at UT-San Antonio. I think he disappeared over spring break.

It was spring, anyway, and he was taking a break: he went to New Orleans with his uncle and stayed three nights at a hotel there, presumably doing touristy things during the day. Mo was supposed to take a bus back to San Antonio, but it’s not clear whether he ever did. He was just gone.

His loved ones created a Facebook page for him, but it’s almost entirely in Arabic, and the last post on it was in June 2015. There hasn’t been any news about him in years.

I have no idea what happened here, but here’s to hoping that Mo decided to drop out of sight so he wouldn’t have to return to Saudi Arabia. He apparently wasn’t doing too well in school, and he would hardly be the first temporary visitor to the U.S. who decided to make his stay permanent.

Thanks, That was such a tragic case, that could have been prevented by better parenting. I mean not to blame but the parents should have communicated back then and spoke on the phone about the overnight so everyone was accountable in the morning for the children, I guess since the Grandparents were raising the kids they were overwhelmed, it seemed like they were in charge of themselves all those girls. Sad. Hopefully the sisters have gone on to be great parents. I am certain they have.

I find it interesting that Mohammed Alghannam has a Facebook page, Also he claims to have a Bachelor of Education degree in Mechanical Engineering from utsa (2012-2016). It’s nice that he used small letters to identify the University of Texas at San Antonio.

However, he does advertise his photograhy business including a phone number. He also has a Linkedin page. I don’t know if anyone has checked to see if he can be ed contacted on LinkedIn or his Facebook page.

Also, an organization titled “Heidi Search Center”, has highlighted his case. I wonder if ICE, has been advised of his status. I hope he did not get radicalized while visiting Bourbon Street. He might be fighting for ISIS for all we know, taking pictures of possible targets.

Frankly that sounds a bit racist.

I was thinking he was murdered for being Islamic since the majority of the population is not caucasian I don’t know how the African Americans feel about about the Islamic Community, as well as, does even 10% of America know they are of Oriental Decent, or Asian, and by Oriental I mean from the Orient not Furniture.
