So I’m going to Wisconsin Friday

On Friday I’m driving to Wisconsin to attend the fourth annual Missing Persons Awareness Event, to be held at the Fox Valley Public Safety Training Center on the campus of Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. It’s from nine to two on Saturday.

I’ve arranged for an Airbnb for the night. It cost a few bucks less than my room at l’Hotel a la Sketchy where I stayed last time, and this time I won’t have to wonder if there’s any drug dealing or prostitution going on outside my door. Probably my host will be a little less rude, too.

I didn’t go last year because I had already promised to attend a protest that day. I look forward to it this time around. Meeting families of the missing, police, etc. Must bring plenty of business cards!

Thank you, be safe, and make sure they submit their DNA and are in NamUs. Talk to you soon. Have fun!

Enjoy yourself. I think you will be surprised at how many people there will probably know who you are by reputation.

Please ask the organizers not to release balloons into the air this year. Balloon releases are litter releases.

Catherine, thanks for sharing that story. It’s nice of Sgt. Goldberg to get involved and share his background to check with the various medical facilities.

However, the frustration they are dealing with the various state agencies that deal with Medicare. Part of the problem is all the fraud in this area that gets under reported in the media. Off course certain elected officials won’t make the necessary reforms in federal laws. I wonder how many of them are getting money from those involved in that fraud.

The other problem is dealing with HIPPA regulations. I was lucky as a detective with the VA. I knew where to find the information needed to assist me in my investigations. The only problem was reading the handwriting in medical records. I however remember one nurse who had great penmanship.

It would be nice if we could get more law enforcement officers to get more involved in these and other investigations.

But, I have been waiting for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Unit to call me back. I called them Thursday morning, on one of their cold missing person cases.

Hope you had a good time, got a lot done and made it back safely.

And once you do-more work. This from the Kansas City Star Sunday on the latest theory as to what happened to Randy Wayne Leach (

Retired Kansas Bureau of Investigation agent who had the case before he hung up his badge weighs in:

    Link to a video I didn’t watch, admittedly:*~hmac=6011ae130606527f75f9a22000015ef0c4fa0aa81e82054859c8249501aa4346

Dunno if it merits an update or not; your call. Sure feel for that boy’s parents though. Lord, please grant them some kind of closure before you know when.

A very good article. Just to think if they had searched that creek years earlier. Who knows his family might have had closure. Here in the Chicago area, they dumped several cars in the Sanitary and Ship Canal. One of them contained the remains of a well connected Mob lawyer. He had killed his wife.

I think a side scan sonar search downriver might find something.

I use AirBnb all the time, in my oppinion it is much better and safer than staying in hotels, and the value for money is very good. I hope you had a great trip!!
