Been gone for exactly a year, but I don’t know if she’s officially an MP

This article caught my attention: A year ago, a woman went missing in Juneau. Her family hasn’t given up hope. Basically, a woman from Dillingham, Alaska named Lori Dee Wilson was at an inpatient drug rehab in Juneau, Alaska when she hopped out the window into the ether.

I would normally be looking to add her right about now, but I can’t find her listed as missing either on NamUs or on the Alaska State Troopers page of MP bulletins, and the article gives her father’s phone number to contact with any information, rather than the Juneau police department. Which makes me wonder if she’s officially listed as missing.

The article does say “Juneau police have twice appealed on their social media channels for Lori Dee to contact her family” and that “Police have also chased down leads from people who say they’ve seen Lori Dee” and “Juneau patrol officers are on the lookout” for her. So I’m not sure. The article itself actually describes her disappearance as a “gray area” where law enforcement is concerned.

Although Lori Dee Wilson went missing voluntarily, I think she certainly SHOULD be listed as an MP. For three reasons:

1. It’s been a year.
2. She’s a drug addict, which means that by definition, she’s endangered.
3. MOST OF ALL, she needs a life-sustaining medical procedure and if she doesn’t get it soon she’ll die.

So is she officially an MP or not? Inquiring minds wanna know.

Flashback Friday: Essie Hiett

This week’s FF case is Essie Margarette “Marge” Hiett, who disappeared from Oroville, California on February 13, 1978. A bartender and waitress, she finished up her shift in the wee hours of the morning and started driving home, but never made it. Her car was found wrecked in a ditch, with her belongings scattered, and no sign of her.

Essie’s case actually got some attention two years ago when Marvin Owens was charged with the murder of his still-missing wife Deborah Diane Owens. Because Deborah also disappeared in 1978, from the same area as Essie, and they had mutual friends, the cops looked into the idea that Marvin had killed Essie too. They decided no. He eventually pleaded out in Deborah’s case and got four years.

As for Essie, the police have another person of interest in her disappearance now — someone whom Marvin Owens knew also. I wonder if they believe someone forced her off the road and abducted her, or if their theory is that first she crashed and then afterwards someone took advantage of the situation.

The Smith girls and their mom might be good for a “Let’s Talk About It” (which I don’t do every week because it’s hard to think of cases mysterious enough to qualify) if I had more information. I mean, a mother and two tiny babies don’t usually vanish up into thin air like that.

Going through the FDLE database again

I’m going through the FDLE database (which has a new location btw) again, trying to find pictures for MPs which have none. Some of these MPs aren’t listed ANYWHERE except the FDLE, not even NamUs, and I aim to change that.

As I’ve said before, I’ve gotten pretty creative in finding sources for pictures. Today I’ll be posting at least one case where I got the MP’s pics off his own Facebook profile. There’s no news on this guy, he’s not in any other database — “few details are available” — but I’ve got pictures for him so up he goes.

It actually makes me really happy when I’m able to add a case that isn’t listed on any other major database. It’s providing valuable, even vital exposure for that MP’s case, and other people and databases can then take my information and use it as necessary.
