Select It Sunday: Brenda Lambert

This case was chosen by ChristynShawn K.: her sister, Brenda Gail Lambert, has been missing from Bluefield, a small town in southern West Virginia, since July 26, 1992, and ChristynShawn had asked me to highlight Brenda’s Facebook page. I can do one better.

Brenda left all her belongings behind at home, including her car and the clothes she was wearing when she was last seen. She had filed a domestic violence complaint against someone, not sure who, before she disappeared. She was 23 years old and would be 47 today.

Five months later, in January 1993, Brenda’s boyfriend, 24-year-old Mark Anthony Cook, also disappeared without a trace, and he hasn’t turned up either. Either the cases are related or it’s a heck of a coincidence. Foul play is suspected in both disappearances.

Did Lambert file a domestic violence complain against her boyfriend or someone else ?

That is a very good question, one I don’t have an answer to.

Oh many questions with this one. Would it be public record to get the report from the police department?

Were phone records checked to see if she made a call or received a call before stepping out?

She evidently changed into different attire than the birthday guests last saw her in. But I would assume she didn’t leave naked. Did she not give a reason to anyone at the home where she was going or who was picking her up?

Did she live with her boyfriend? Any history of hanging with the wrong crowd?

Was she divorced or just separated from her husband, on good or bad terms, issues over custody or visitation?

Surely her loved ones know who had choked her on several occasions, if they were aware of the abuse.

So one suspect poly’d, any search warrants to check his vehicle and property? Any scent dogs used?

The boyfriend- I read his case file. Any water near that bar? His situation I lean towards too drunk and ended up in water just because I’ve listed numerous male cases where that is exactly what happened, accidental. Unless the same male suspect of Brenda was also questioned in Mark’s case and failed that poly too.

I would think hiring a PI might help resolve this case if the suspect is still living.

There was a DVP filed and dropped in the month of her disappearance but it was not against Mark. There is speculation about their actual relationship, but nothing that would matter much to the case. We are not permitted to release the information or the name of the one who failed the polygraph nor who she took the DVP out in. Her marriage was in very bad terms.

Thank you Family Member. and my thoughts go out to your family and Mark’s family.

Were Brenda’s children allowed to be raised by her side of the family or did they end up elsewhere?

The vehicle and the property of the suspect should have been checked for any evidence.

Even after all these years scent dogs can still be used.

Has the family tried talking with Tim Miller’s group Texas EquuSearch or the CUE Center?

This brings to mind a more recent case out of Missouri. Kara Kopensky went missing from Belton many years ago. Then last year another girl from Raymore went missing. The girls shared the the same fella in common Kylr, who has been charged with burning the vehicle of the girl missing since September. The search for Jessica has lead to the discovery of two male bodies.

In Brenda’s case, I think properties of any family related to the suspect also needs to be searched. If he or his family/associates had access to 4 wheel drive vehicles, etc. Again, why a PI could be helpful in finding background info that the police can’t or won’t do.

There was no water near where Mark disappeared. There was a local pond drained because of a tip that Brenda’s and Marks bodies had been put there but nothing was found.

What’s this about her home burning down within a month of her disappearance? That looks like a red flag to me.
