Let’s talk about it: Shannon Patrick Ketron

Shannon Patrick Ketron was seven months old when he disappeared from Cordell, Oklahoma on June 17, 1982. I already wrote about him for Flashback Friday nearly two years ago. According to the only witness, Shannon’s mom, the baby was the victim of a bizarre abduction.

Ann Ketron said she was driving with the baby when she had to get something (out of the trunk maybe?) and pulled over to the side of the road. A man stopped and asked her if everything was all right. Then he said she looked like his ex-wife, knocked her unconscious, and took Shannon. Shannon was never seen again and the abductor was never identified.

That’s really weird. To begin with, I’ve never heard of a baby being kidnapped by a strange man. Furthermore, there seems to have been almost no press coverage about this case and very little information is available, and what little there is, is contradictory. I’ve seen claims that Shannon was almost two years old when he was taken, when in fact he was seven months, and I’ve seen the abduction date incorrectly given as July 17, 1982.

Shannon’s dad, Dustin Ketron, was in prison when he disappeared so presumably he’s not a suspect. Ann took a polygraph, but the results haven’t been released.

If Shannon is still alive, he’d have turned 35 last month. Do you think he is? Let’s talk about it.

This story reminds me very much of the Sky Metalwala case a few years ago.

I don’t know, that sounds like an awfully random story. Not that random stories don’t happen, but probably not as often as they’re told. I think something happened to him. The reason why, the other day I read something you posted about how guilty parents disappear quietly and innocent ones search for their child vehemently. If there’s little coverage it doesn’t sound like mom was very active. Unless she passed away before social media.

Mom sounds sketchy. I wonder if she’s alive. Too bad the police cant chime in or we can’t get some input from the investigators…

Without knowing more…it sounds fishy I live one state over from OK and I have kids in that age range in 1982. So I wonder why I never even heard about it back then? I remember various other kidnappings from back then because they made the news and the parents were on tv, looking and crying, etc.

I am genuinely surprised that this case got so little attention. A missing blonde haired, blue eyed baby, a suspicious parent; it seems like the sort of case that would turn into a complete media frenzy nowadays.

I don’t know if it happens in USA, but here in South America, babies ( especially white/ caucasian) are sometimes kidnapped to be sold in the illegal adoptions market.

It used to be a thing here too — Google “Georgia Tann” — but I don’t think it is anymore. It’s not that people don’t steal babies sometimes to adopt them, but usually women who want a child steal them to adopt them themselves, not sell them to other women who want to adopt a baby.

I think Shannon is dead, at the hands of his mother, possibly buried in that green duffle bag that also went missing. Why would polygraph results not be released? Not that it matters much as they can’t used.

Is there any proof she was ever unconscious? Maybe a witness who saw the two cars parked on the side of the road? What was she retrieving and why was it so important that she had to pull over? The story is stranger than fiction, I don’t buy it. I don’t think this “ex-wife hating” man even exists. For one, he pulls over to help her than knocks her out and for of all reasons there could have been, that she looked like his ex-wife. Then supposedly he takes the baby, because, you know, “ex-wife looking woman can’t have this baby, so I’m going to take it!” Was there any evidence she was ever knocked out? Like maybe a bruise. I think that if she was knocked out, someone would have pulled over and called the police. It was on a dirt road though. I also find it suspicious that the item missing was a duffel bag. I personally think she accidentally killed her baby and panicked. Assuming since they were on a dirt road, they were in a rural area, and we have a baby missing and a duffel bag. She disposed of the body than made up the story off the top of her head.

There is so little info it makes it hard to make an educated guess. She claimed she was knocked unconcious – were there signs of that? Did she have bruises? Was there another set of tire tracks at the scene besides her own? Did police take her car for processing? It is a hard story to believe. My first inclination is she killed the baby, probably on accident, then buried him in the missing duffle bag.
