Okay, I am seriously confused

What’s going on with this NCMEC poster? Hailey Sandoval disappeared at the age of one year, yet she’s classified as a runaway. And the poster doesn’t even give the name of the city she disappeared from, only the state. That narrows it down to 163,696 square miles.

Oh-kay…

I checked and Hailey is on CDOJ with more information: she was taken by her mother, who was then sixteen years old. She disappeared from Lynwood.

Why the NCMEC didn’t put this crucial information on the poster is beyond me. Shrug. I checked to see if the mother is also listed in the NCMEC database; she is not.

NCMEC doesn’t always have the most information about the missing, which is unfortunate because that can be very crucial to finding them or understanoing what happened. Hailey’s mother Stephanie Tafoya used to be listed as a runaway on NCMEC but for some reason her poster was removed a while ago.

A long time ago, like over ten years ago, an NCMEC employee and I had a brief friendly email correspondence. She told me the NCMEC rules require the posters have everything as it was entered into the NCIC — even if they know that information is incorrect! You can see that particularly in the names sometimes, obvious typos, like how they say Blake Pursley’s middle name is “Wasde” when it’s “Wade.”
