Well, this is sad

I was reading this very sad story that’s part of an award-winning Chicago Tribune investigative reporting piece on Illinois’s crappy group homes for troubled youth and thought the name “Mary Bohanon” rang a bell. I checked. And she’s missing. Again. For at least the third time. She has post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and a history of running away and prostitution activity. Her mother gave her up to the state, apparently in order for her to get help for her mental illness. Obviously she didn’t get it.

In the past, was she always found in the same city?

My heart breaks for this poor person and her mother. How terrible must it be to try to trust in the system and have the system just absolutely fail you at every step? The only thing that doesn’t cause me to shed a tear is the lack of surprise I have that this is taking place in Chicago. Chicago makes NYC look like Mayberry (from what I know about NYC from friends who live there and countless news articles and statistics about the city).

Not only was that article very sad, but it was also very eye opening as well. Thank you for sharing it with us.

What I find particularly disgusting about this sort of thing is the number of people willing to pay for sex with kids–clearly messed up kids or they wouldn’t be on the street hooking. And I’ll bet many of these johns have kids themselves.
