Missing Person of the Week: Robert Leroy Kovack

On request, Robert Leroy Kovack is the missing person of the week. (I’ve finally changed it.) To all intents and purposes things were going marvelously for him in September 1998. He was about to finish graduate school and had already gotten a job in his field. He had some credit card debt, but that’s normal.

Then he was gone. And no one seems to know why.

I would think it was one of those “MP in car in water somewhere” cases except for the fact that his car turned up abandoned and out of gas.

Maybe Kovack had secrets in his life that no one knew about, even now. Maybe something happened to him while he was walking down the road to get gas. I really can’t speculate any more on this one. His case reminds me of Jason Jolkowski‘s in that they were both healthy, happy young men who vanished seemingly without rhyme or reason.

I know this probably isn’t the place for this, but I had been going through some Doe Network cases a while back and I thought that [this case](http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/225umky.html) should at least be looked at for Robert. It looks like dentals are available so it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to have them compared.

Looks like a good possibility to me. Might want to call or email the case manager if you haven’t already.

It looks like the town where his car was found abandoned is on the way to the town where his parents lived and where he would be headed, so it’s safe to assume he had been the one driving when it ran out of gas. Without more information, it seems like the likeliest scenario would be that he left his car and then something happened to him after that, although It would be hard to guess when and where that was, since so much is unknown. This is unlike Jason Jolkowski’s case, where he disappeared during a small time frame from a known residential area in the middle of a weekday, seemingly into thin air. If I could find out what really happened to only one MP, it would be him.

There were some off things about his disappearance. The vehicle being in 4 wheel drive never sat well with me (being in 4 wd would also eat up more gas). Apparently the family directly requested that Robert’s roommates not touch his possessions, and they ignored these requests by packing up all of his things and his bed.

The Jason case is baffling. He is exactly, to the year, two days younger than i am. I wonder how both of these young men’s lives would be now
