Minutes before midnight

This week’s Select It Sunday case is Desmond Santonio Dix, chosen by Annie. He was kidnapped from Atlanta, Georgia at gunpoint on January 30, 1996, and was never seen again. He was seventeen years old.

Unfortunately, that’s all I know about this case. You’d think that such a kidnapping, even in Atlanta, would rate at least one or two articles in the paper, but if there were any I’ve been unable to find them. I checked his NamUs profile but they haven’t added anything new.

Makes me wonder if it was a case of mistaken identity kidnapping by some gang – are there any articles on gang activity in the part of GA that he was in?

I have been visiting this site for several years now. It’s a wonderfully organized collection of missing person cases. I’m drawn to reading about these cases, and I like to theorize what may have occurred. I have finally decided to join in and comment. Regarding Desmond, I agree with the sentiment that it may have been gang related. It’s possible that he may not have been directly involved in a gang but a victim of an initiation of some sort. Or, it may not have been gang related and instead, the result of a disagreement with someone.
