Second entry in my second themed set: David Stevenson, a British World War I private with one of the worst records of court-martial in the entire British side of the war. In two and a half years of service, Stevenson was court-martialed for AWOL no less than 18 times, for desertion once, and for other offenses twelve times: that’s 31 court-martials. Finally the British Army got fed up and shot him.
They should have just let him go home! It’s crazy how a supposedly free country at the time would allow such barbaric treatment.
I think they should have sent him to prison. I don’t think he should have been shot either, and obviously he was unsuited for military life, but he shouldn’t have been rewarded for his rotten behavior by being sent back home.
