Bernadine Paul article

I was very excited today to come across this article from yesterday about Bernadine Paul, missing from Connecticut for 15 years. She’s one of the very few cases where I have never updated her file, even once, in the ten and a half years I’ve been running Charley. And alas, it looks like it’s going to stay that way because the article tells me nothing new. I even checked NamUs and there’s nothing on there I don’t already have. Sigh. But I thought I’d bring up the article anyway, if only to bring her case to the forefront for awhile.

I was disappointed also. As Lisa Backus is a long time crime reporter I hoped we may finally learn more. When I realized the article was in the New Britain Herald, I understood.

Bernadine Paul, who vanished from Waterbury in 2000, was one of the names mentioned by the public as a possible victim of the New Britain serial killer. Her name is also mentioned as a possible victim of a suspected Highway 8 serial killer on area blogs.

It would turn out that all seven victims found, three from Waterbury, disappeared in 2003 and the story uses her case as a example of the problems the long term missing and their families face in general, without saying anything more about her case in particular.

To be truthful the Waterbury Republican-American provides next to no useful information about anyone who vanishes in their city and the Waterbury PD rarely does press conferences. The New Haven Register is the only area newspaper that has done any in-depth stories about the missing.

I am curious Meaghan… Do you yourself ever reach out to family members for more information? Or do you only let them come to you? Just curious, because the cousin mentioned in this article has what I consider a rarer name (than just smith) and there is one listed on Facebook from Connecticut…. I wonder if se would have any more information to provide?

No, I do not. If they contact me, of course, I will ask them if they have anything they’d like to contribute to the casefile, or any corrections that need to be made. If there is a Facebook page they make about an MP, I’ll have Charley’s FB page “like” it so I can follow their posts. But I don’t contact them myself unless they contact me. I want to respect their privacy.

That is what I figured. Makes Total Sense! 😉

My question is who reported Bernadine Paul missing? How did someone discover she went missing? Someone should do an age progression photo of her to see what she would look like today. She would be 55 now

This is a family member of mine. Sadly, we have no information to add- we are aware of only the same information published by the media. We want nothing more than to know what happened.
