I wonder…

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department recently posted several new/old missing persons cases on their site (under the unsolved homicides section). I added/updated some yesterday. I noticed something:

Joyce Harper was previously listed on Charley as missing since January 1, 1975. I found out from the San Diego site, though, that the actual date of her disappearance is unknown because she wasn’t reported missing for 20 years. Meanwhile, Kimberly Cozart was last seen sometime in February 1977 and also wasn’t reported missing for a very long time: eighteen years. In fact, those two were reported missing on the same day: December 15, 1995. And it says Kimberly may use the last name Harper.

They vanished about two years apart and lived in different cities in San Diego County, but I wonder if there’s some kind of connection between the cases or between the MPs anyway. I suppose I won’t know until I get more information, assuming I ever do.

Whoa. Kimberly looks a lot like Buckskin Girl (133UFOH on DoeNet).

So, are you going to contact the respective LE with this information and bring it to their attention?

      • Meaghan June 13, 2015 / 3:17 pm

If there is a connection I expect they already know.

You would think so, but unless their prints or DNA are in the system, a lot can get by them.

Justin, I would not make that assumption.

It wasn’t the Hernando County Sheriffs Department in Florida or the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department in New York that made the first connection between Caledonia Jane Doe and Tammy Jo Alexander.

As far as I can tell it was volunteer Carl Koppelman, who saw Tammy Jo’s picture after her friend Laurel Nowell added her to NamUs, and called it in

@Peter…oh, yes. Tammy Jo’s case was so tragic. Look at that smile of hers! All of these cases are extremely sad. She came from a very unhappy situation at home, according to her sister; their mother was abusive and had a drug problem.
It makes me hurt for all of the lost souls in this world.

I’d say you’re right about the connection. Reported missing the same day in 1995 – Joyce by her daughter and Kimberly by her sister (San Diego sheriff’s site). It would be a remarkable coincidence otherwise. I know this would make Joyce about 16 when Kimberly was born, but having children early wasn’t so uncommon then. I wonder why the delay in reporting them missing?

Justin wrote to LE and got confirmation that they are in fact mother and daughter.

That is correct…they are indeed mother and daughter. Very sad and puzzling case, isn’t it?

On websleuths, someone said they were mother and daughter.

With Justin and Meaghan’s latest update confirming that Joyce Harper and Kimberly Cozart are mother and daughter it reminded me of another two cases of mother and daughter who vanishing years apart.

Nancy Jean Medina ,36, vanished from Choctaw, Oklahoma on August 3. 1984. Her stepdaughter, 16-year-old Meredith Ann Medina vanished from Midwest City, Oklahoma on February 14, 1989, some four and half years later.

In all four cases very little is known but authorities suspect both of the mother and daughter cases are connected.
