The internet still works

They’re supposed to turn off the internet at the house today and I’ve been waiting for that to happen. (See this entry.) But it’s almost three-thirty and the connection still works.

Anyway, the MP of the week is Carolyn Ruth Killaby, a woman who disappeared from Orchards, Washington on November 11, 1995. It’s not a mystery what happened to her — she was murdered by a guy who was convicted and later committed suicide in prison — but her body has never been found.

I didn’t see the kid’s name on the list in alphabetical order, but that doesn’t mean there is no story. His name was Jonathan Ortiz. His mother, Elizabeth, tried to poison his dad, Gilbert. While he was in the hospital, Elizabeth took off for Mexico with Jonathan, age 2 years. She was eventually given to American authorities, who watched the jail thinking Jonathan would visit with a relative. He did. Jonathan was returned to his dad. Jonathan was 10 years old; missing eight years. Later, at age 18/19 years old, he beat up his father twice. Both times the dad lied and said he was a victim of a robbery.
There is nothing wrong with a kid loving his mom. It is so very sad to think the dad did so much to find his son, gave him a home, love and LIED to protect the son and still gets hatred and anger in return. Elizabeth tried to Kill Gilbert, and the son “doesn’t care.” I wonder how many reunions turn sour and how these families survive after the missing child is found.

Technically the son beating up his dad may have had nothing to do with the whole family abduction situation. Maybe the son is just an asshole.

The father sure is one resilient son of a gun

I remember seeing this on Unsolved Mysteries and all, but either I’m on the wrong page or something, but what does this case have to do with the MP of the week? I’ll read again.

LOL Kat – I thought the exact same thing! I actually just watched this on an Unsolved Mysteries Rerun last week…. but I am not getting the connection of this and the current MP…. Hmmm at least i am not alone 🙂

Meaghan’s gone for a couple days and the whole place turns to anarchy! 😉

CaptK, that’s nothing. Once years ago I left my laptop power cable at Michael’s after spending the weekend with him. We lived an hour apart at the time. With gas at $4 a gallon I couldn’t justify going back just to get the cable, so I posted saying I would be gone till next weekend and explaining why. While I was gone some commenter posted saying Michael was a crappy boyfriend for not driving over to give me the cable himself, and brought up other things they said was evidence of Michael’s unsuitability, and other commenters defended my choice of partner, and bickering broke out, and so they sat around discussing my personal life.

I actually watched this story on Forensic Files Yesterday. I missed the ending so I didn’t know he committed suicide. Glad he’s in hell but would have been a better ending if they could find her body.

I used this as a place to post b/c I don’t know how to create a new post….or if I can create a new topic. Sometimes, when I have a question or comment I use a current blog. I was thinking of this case b/c the MP of the week was also on Unsolved Mysteries. I feel sorry for Carolyn Killaby’s husband AND Jonathan’s dad. Different endings to the cases, but both sad. One guy loses a wife. One guy basically lost his son. In the article it says Jonathan blames the dad for his mom being in prison.

No problem Danielle – people do it all the time – I just sometimes think my brain is failing me – lol I was like “hmmmm am I missing something?!” The outcome of the Gilbert and Jonathan case is a sad one. Poor Gilbert couldn’t catch a break!

Just say Off Topic, and we’ll all be a little bit less confused. In theory. I, personally, am confused on a daily basis about something…..

LOL Kat – I am glad I am not the only one ! 😉

I think when Meaghan updates her site to make her database searchable, she should allow for people to start posts, for just such reasons. I hope you do update soon Meaghan. I’m all for contributing to a “Go Fund Me” Page to help make it happen. Hint Hint!
