Flashback Friday: Daniel Fogg

Daniel Fogg is this week’s Flashback Friday featured case: an intellectually disabled man who vanished from the Austin, Texas residential treatment facility where he lived on July 17, 1980. In addition to having a low IQ, Fogg is autistic. I’m thinking he might be still on the ranch, but who knows. He might have wandered off and been picked up by someone. But I doubt he survived long after his disappearance.

Most likely he is close by. If there is water or cliff or other hazzard that would be the most likely place. However a number of people/bodies have been found at the edge of a field or woods and have been overlooked for many years. He could have gotten tangled in the underbrush and be hidden.

I remember reading a similar story that was from the 90s – except that it was a young man.

Gordon Page? Or Keri Bray? (Bray was actually found safe years later.)

Neither – maybe I’ll find that one eventually. It was a young man who walked away from the hospital or institution and was never found, from what I recall.

Or maybe it wasn’t the 90s – I went through a whole bunch of names from 90 to 93 and don’t see him.

Nah – not that one either. I think the kid I’m talking about had one black and white photo and was missing teeth, if I’m not mistaken.

Not Tim Perry either, though very similar…the mystery kills me now too 🙂

Was he on one of Meaghan’s Make A List Mondays? I thought she did one a while back about walk aways. Or are you talking about that one guy from, Vermont, maybe? Oded something? Let me look.

Just where I was at, thanks libraryjobber.

The kid that was probably unidentified? Johnny…Lee? I’m so good at details.

Johnny Lee Mills is who I’m thinking of but that doesn’t fit what you’ve said, sorry!

      • Ilya May 3, 2015 / 8:30 pm

I have the memory of his photo, because it stuck out somehow – black and white photo of a kid with disability of some sort.

Johnny Lee Mills is the one that stuck out to me too – even though he’s not the one I’m thinking of. His face is that of extreme anger :\

Also – can’t help but think that most photos from the 90s are of god-awful quality. Sheesh!

    (Sorry, I know – a bit of off-topic).

    • Kat May 3, 2015 / 8:49 pm

Did you check the list recently done on bad quality photos? Maybe he’s in there? What other info do you have? I know stuff like that drives me nuts, but I usually rely on Meaghan, like “hey there’s this case, with such and such circumstances, maybe the name was…” and she always gets it. Always. She’s great like that.

One possibility is that his case was resolved since I saw it last time – who knows….

Other than that – young white guy with some sort of mental illness that is clear to see from his single black-and-white photo.
