Another ET entry

This is actually from several days ago, but I forgot to post it earlier. The unlucky man here is Private Benjamin Hopper, an American serviceman who was executed for murder in France in 1945.

I spend quite a bit of time reading history books and true-crime books on the lookout for executions to write about for Executed Today. I don’t write about every execution I encounter, though; far from it. A case has to be interesting, or at least have some detail about it that catches my eye, for me to make the effort to do an entry for it.

The Hopper case certainly isn’t interesting at all: a perfectly ordinary, mundane drunken murder. But there was a detail about it that got my attention: the pathetic letter Hopper wrote to General Eisenhower, with all the misspellings. This guy had the mental capacity of a child and should never have been in the army in the first place. Though I suppose by 1945 they were really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I think you did post this already – Back on April 12 – I read it then and this looks like the same entry. It was for sure sad to see someone who seemed to have such a mentally disability in the situation he was. Like you said – why in the world was he allowed in the service.

Whoops. What is it with me and my memory lately? Sigh.

Meaghan – I would imagine you have a lot on your mind – AND on your plate! I am doing nothing and can barely remember how to get home from work every night! lol. Plus you gave us some more info in this one 😉 ❤

Well, since the three day seizure I’ve worried about memory lapses.

Yeah I can imagine! Is your test coming up soon? I suffer from optical Migraine Seizures and loose my vision either completely or partially in one or both eyes. Then at a point in my 20s (I am almost 37 now) I had a short period where I was in a sense “Blacking out” losing periods of time. I had a LOT of testing and everything came back “Normal”. At the end of the day we (Doctors and myself ) think I was reacting to stress. Sometimes out bodies just react to other things going on with us and it manifests it self in strange ways. For Me Stress effects me in all sorts of Bizarre ways!! I sending good vibes your way that it is nothing too serious and you get a resolution and feel better quickly!!

I am seeing the neurologist on May 8. I don’t know what she’s going to do, though. I’ve already had an MRI and an EEG and they were clean. I have a feeling this appointment will come to nothing; I just want to check off all the boxes is all.

In this case, checking off the boxes means an 8:30 appointment at a neurology place 88 miles away. Sigh.

I would imagine they just needed bodies or “bullet stoppers.”
