Select It Sunday: Angelica Longoria

This Select It Sunday was chosen by Gus, Angelica Maria Longoria‘s brother. All the databases I can find claim she disappeared from El Monte, California on November 23, 1985 (see below). She was was fifteen in 1985, but for some reason the bigger photo of her on her NCMEC poster is of her at the age of nine or ten. (I think she’s older in the inset photo.) The only reason I can think of why they might have done that is, unlike the other photos that are available, the older photo clearly shows Angelica’s chipped tooth. If Angelica’s height and weight at the time of her disappearance are accurate she was quite small for her age, only 4’8. I was taller than that at eleven years old.

In approximately 2006, Justin Jackson-Mann, a Charley Project blog reader and my good friend, wrote to law enforcement asking for information about her disappearance. He got this response:

The missing case was reported in 1999, However she was last seen in 1983 (according to our reports). The missing is now 36 yrs old. We were close to finding her in Illinois when she left her home quickly with no forwarding information and we believe that she does not want to be found.

And that’s all I have.

    Wow, that’s interesting.
I’ve always wondered how many of the cases on Charley Project are:
    1. Missing intentionally
    2. Solved, but no way to find out

Do you know if Mr. Jackson-Man knows who responded to him? Only because it is inaccurate information.

Hi Gus, it’s been a long time since your post and you may not see this reply, but I thought I’d give it a shot. Did you and your family ever live on Ryland in Temple City?

    Hi Mr. Longoria,

“Only because it is inaccurate information.”

That does not surprise me at all. Your sister vanished at a time that in the absence of evidence foul play all teenager’s who vanished were not missing – they were just runaways – end of story.

It would nor surprise me if you family was told she will come home sooner of later, then after she turned 18 were told she’s now a young adult and can choose not to be in contact with your family.

In short, they did next to nothing 30 years ago, don’t want to admit that now, and will have to build your sister’s case from square one if a cold case detective becomes interested

Hi Meaghan, I was looking at possible matches for a UID found in 1983 when I came across a typo that you should probably fix:
In the “Circumstances” section you wrote that she disappeared first in December 1981, and then for good in February 1982. However, in “Missing Since”, you put that she disappeared in February *1981*. It should actually be February 1982

I’m sorry but, none of those dates are accurate. Her birthday is on February, Angelica went missing on November of 1985.

Mion is not talking about Angelica. She is talking about Mary Jo Lee Long. You can tell by clicking on the link provided.

Did you get the email I sent you?.

I’m Angelica Longoria’s mother. I was not present when she disappeared from her father, (Gilbert Longoria and her step mother’s house.) It really bothers me that the El Monte Police Department never placed luminol in the last room she was seen at to make sure there was no foul play. The Missing and Exploited Children’s Organization have her on their records as missing. They told me that her father had called the El Monte Police Department and told them that he had heard from my Angel and that they did not have to look for lher. Thank you for doing everything that I don’t have the resources to get done.
