Karolina Juszczykowska (how does one pronounce that?), an otherwise unremarkable middle-aged kitchen lady, was executed 70 years ago today for hiding Jews in her apartment in Tomaschow, Poland.

Flashback Friday: Verna Smith
This week’s Flashback Friday case is Verna Smith, age 48, missing since February 1, 1968 from Marina, California. I wonder if that date is strictly accurate, since her two children were very young when she vanished and her husband never reported her missing. (Why?) She left home, leaving the car behind, and hasn’t been seen from that day to this — nearly 47 years now.
If Verna’s husband was the same age she was, there’s a good chance he’s deceased. Verna herself would be 95 years old if she is still alive. I have very little about this disappearance and I doubt it will ever be solved at this late date.
