I was surfing the internet looking at rat websites and thinking about my pet rats and really missing them — I no longer have any, they’ve all died off — and thought, what the heck, let’s make a TOTALLY RANDOM list of MP cases that have the word “rat” mentioned somewhere in them. To my surprise, there were a few, enough for a list anyway. More Charley cases have the word “rat” than the word “Birkenstock.”
Clive Barry — attempted suicide by eating rat poison, second paragraph of the description
Barry Keith Douglas — wearing a t-shirt reading “Thousand Island River Rat”
Loren Wayne Harvey Jr. — tattoo of a rat on his right ankle
Annie Suazo — the suspect called police informants “rat finks” — last paragraph of the description
Ke’Shaun Bryant Vanderhorst — his apartment was “filthy, cluttered and rat-infested” in the first paragraph of the case details.

On Websleuths, since Randy Allen Taylor’s (Who’s responsible for the murder of Alexis Murphy and a suspect in the disappearance of Samantha Clarke.) initials spell out RAT, people like to make a big joke out of it. Contrary to what people believe, rats make pretty much the best rodent type pet. You can train them some if you want. I have a family friend who worked at a pet shop once who said she got bitten by pretty much all of the other rodent type pets except for the pet rats.
Yeah, they are real sweethearts.
I had a wonderful set of pet rats. My first, and the sweetest, was a hairless rat named Ella Jean. Very neat animals.
I agree regarding the Vanderhorst mother. That’s one rapid-fire case of SIDS too many.
Perhaps a little more effort in getting the information out to resolve cases and update them instead of making ridiculous connections with rats and shoes among cases would serve a greater common good, don’t you think? Now that your website has some notariety and law enforcement uses it, and you were given a computer by your fans, you should focus on updating and disseminating information rather than wasting time on useless facts no one really gives a crap about
For your information these Make-a-List Mondays can be very resourceful. The lists about shoes could be very useful if someone is trying to match a Jane or John Doe to a missing person who was wearing the same shoes. Also, why do you care if Meghan uses her computer donated by fans for stuff other than updating Charley Project? She had to use her own personal computers she bought with her own money before for updating Charley Project, which probably took up a good chunk of memory that could of been used for personal stuff or whatever.
It’s Meghan’s website, she can do whatever she wants…and sometimes these “useless facts” can lead to new insights about cases that aren’t active or don’t have a high profile. If you give money to, I don’t know, public radio, it’s because you appreciate their operation, not because you need to have control over what they do.
Did you even donate to help buy the computer? I donated and I have no problem with her using it for personal reasons. It’s not like she said the computer was only to be used for Charley, then turned around and is now using it solely to play games 24/7 while totally neglecting the website.
Also, Meaghan has been doing this for about 10 years now, wrote almost all 10,000+ profiles herself, updates regularly, and has spent thousands of hours of her life to working on what’s become a very reliable virtual encyclopedia of MP cases that even law enforcement uses — all for free. She doesn’t get paid to do this. So I think she’s entitled to play games on her computer and write lists about things that ”no one really gives a crap about” (according to you).

May instead of pouring your bile and vitriol into your comments, you can make such constructive suggestions …. be the change you want to see in the world, Frank.
You’re missing the point Frank. The whole point of Make-A-List Monday is to get random cases out there so that lesser-known cases get publicized and not just the ones everyone knows about. That way a case may come on someone’s radar — for example, someone who is trying to match an unidentified person to a missing persons case. It really doesn’t matter what the topic of commonality is between the cases, it just matters that people get to read about cases that they may not have otherwise read about.
Publicity of MP cases is the main point of the Charley Project, so I see no problem with it (and I donated a considerable amount to the computer fund). Personally it is my favorite “segment” that Meaghan does weekly.
I think Make-A-List Monday is actually a genius idea…. It brings cases to the forefront that may otherwise sit amongst the other many cases unnoticed. It gives these missing people a little renewed attention.
If you don’t like the site… or the blog … or how Meaghan Chooses to run HER site – then why are you on here – why are you looking at it?
Meaghan does an amazing job – and obviously is law enforcement and others are referencing her website she obviously is doing something right!
The Computer was a GIFT from People who wanted to give back to Meaghan for all she gives – It should NEVER be thrown up in her face – and anyone that does that should be ashamed of themselves.
Move on somewhere else Frank – No one wants your negativity here!
Hey Frank, how about some effort in – oh I don’t know – researching some cases or writing something to help out or – oh wait that’s right, it’s not your freaking website.
Meaghan, I’m sorry you have to deal with creeps like this. I for one value your selfless work.

Frank, Meghan is volunteering her time and at anytime she could just say “I quit this s***” and shut the site down. She mentioned she was having health problems right now, please have some compassion. Not to mention she probably has a pretty busy life outside of Charley. By the way for many of us who use this site and others like NAMUS and Websluths, the lists are helpful and in my opinion, very interesting at times.
I agree with Mo. These random lists are super useful! I would have never heard of any of these cases without it; they were brought to my attention because of this random list. Frank, if you have a construction comment, i.e., a suggestion for a Make-a-list-Monday that you think would be more valuable, (for example, a list of long-term missing who have been found within 1 mile of where they were reportedly last seen) I’m sure Meghan would be receptive to your ideas.
Back to the topic of rats…… when I was a kid, there was a toy (similar in popularity to troll dolls) called a Rat Fink. To call another kid a rat fink was to supremely insult them- so of course these toy rat finks were incredibly popular.

I enjoy the Make-A-List Mondays. Its a new way of looking at things, which is what many of these older cases need.
