Maria De los Angeles Martinez case is so disturbing because a phone call was made and it could not be traced. She has such a common name too it is hard to find any info on this case. I live in AZ too and no media has reported on this case in years. It is sad. I wish a TV station or someone would being this back to life.

Heather Kullorn was sure young to be left overnight in charge of such a new baby. And also who shaves their eyebrows these days, or even back in the 90s?
Yeah, Maria’s radio station probably wasn’t the kind where callers talked on the air. A station I listen to used have this thing called the Trading Post which I guess is similar to what Maria was using. The way it worked was you called up and left a message, maybe “Hi, my name’s Maria and I’ offering babysitting services, call me at 555-1234.” Then the message got played back during the Trading Post and somebody who was interested would just call the number you’d given; no way for the radio station to do anything more than maybe call and verify that the number you’d left was legit, no control over who might call you or what arrangments you might make.

Chloe Sevigny shaved her eyebrows in the late 90s and she was something of a trendsetter back then.

There’s got to be more to Crystal Marie Haag’s story.

The only thing I know about Maria Martinez that isn’t in her casefile on Charley is that she and her family were illegal immigrants. I decided not to put that in because it wasn’t relevant. I don’t even know if the family is in touch with LE anymore; if they were illegal it’s possible they’ve dropped out of sight and/or returned to their home country.

I just want to say that I really appreciate these Make-A-List Mondays. Not only are they interesting, but they could help identify unidentified people who fit the characteristics of some of the lists.

Thank you! I enjoy making them and see them as a good way to (if briefly) publicize cases that would otherwise be lost in the crowd.

Margaret Ellen Fox might fit into this list, as well. She responded to a babysitting ad and disappeared when she went for the job interview. Her case has always frightened me.

My apologies, the story is a bit different than how I’d worded it. Margaret posted an ad for a babysitting job and disappeared after she went to an interview with the man who had responded to her ad.

I could swear some years ago on another site they had listed Maria as resolved or found. I wonder if there were two women with the same name missing or if it was a typo.

I’ve always thought that Nadine O’Dell was one of the first victims of serial murderer Carl Eugene (“Coral”) Watts. He grew up in Inkster Michigan, and his first known murder was committed in 1974. He tended to target young attractive white women, and several of his victims were attacked in public while walking down the street.

    • Meaghan April 1, 2014 / 4:39 pm

Have you considered writing to the police with this theory? It sounds worth looking into.

    • Peter Henderson April 3, 2014 / 8:30 am

That makes sense Carl. Information says his first official victim was on October 30, 1974 when he tortured and murdered Glori Steele, 20. But it also says she is suspected of being his second victim. I believe the first victim they are refereeing is a college student who was murdered while he was in Tennessee going to Lane College on a football scholarship but that’s just a guess. I think its more then likely that Nadine O’Dell was not even considered at the time.

Its very important to remember the times and police attitude when Nadine vanished. All teenagers who disappeared without evidence of foul play were listed as runaways. Little was done to find them and it happened at a time when many police authorities felt runaway juveniles were a family – not a police problem.

    Hi Meaghan.

I also enjoy the lists and find then useful. I find your chronological listings to be very helpful in adding or update profiles. In that regard I was looking at 1974 this morning and noticed that Linda Lee Lovell needs to be updated and corrected.

Your last update is April 2012 and in it you made the same mistake I did. You state that Linda and her traveling companion, Stephan Packard, were going along the California coast with the intention of traveling to the Seattle Worlds Fair, but that fair happened a decade earlier. It a understandable mistake given the way the available information is stated.

( It was while recalling my first girlfriend, Rita, that I realized I was a decade off. I remembering that my first real date was in the spring of 1964, and we went to the movies to see a Elvis Presley film “It happened at the Worlds Fair.” )

I did some research and realized I was referring to the wrong Washington state Worlds Fair.

From my updated post: “Linda, who is from Missoula, Montana, was spending the summer of 1974 hitchhiking with a male friend, 18-year-old Stephan Locke Packard.

They were traveling up the California coast with their intended ultimate destination being the environmentally themed World’s Fair, known as Expo ’74, in Spokane, Washington then return to Missoula.”

Also Stephan Packard’s NamUs file now has a picture. My post includes case file numbers and police contact information
