Still out of action

I’ve been suffering from a stomach complaint the last several days. I’ve essentially eaten nothing since Saturday at least — maybe Friday — and I don’t know at this point whether I feel horrible because I’m still sick or whether I feel horrible because I’m starving. Either way, I’m afraid to eat anything. I felt good enough to actually get up and go out last night, bought a gallon of milk and thought I’d try drinking that to start, but this turned out to be a grave error.

Today I ate a little cup of applesauce. So far I’ve kept it down, but I really don’t feel any better than before.

Of course, fascinating though it may be, the book of crime scene photos I’m currently reading is probably not helping the nausea either…

Very sorry to hear this. Stomach complaints usually do not call for milk. It is simply too fat. Instead, try the BRAT diet. Bananas, rice (plain, no added oil or butter), applesauce (no cinnamon) and toast.

If you can hold this down try adding fluids. For me, sweetened ice tea helps. If that works out, I upgrade to hot green tea with honey.

Hope you feel better very soon.

When I got acute pancreatitis as a negative reaction to my gallbladder removal surgery, I got to the point where I could only hold down saltines and crushed ice. Maybe you could try eating saltines and drinking ice water along with the aforementioned? Also, whenever I have major stomach issues and simply have no time for it (which is practically all the time), I find that the sugar-free version of Pepto-Bismol or an equivalent (the Walgreens and Walmart brands are especially recommendable) works like a champ. Just guzzle it down until you feel better. (BTW, what ended up helping me out was a four-day hospital stay, an ERCP [endoscopic procedure], and being put on dicyclomine.)

I got sick a while ago and it turned into a cycle….turned out to be a potassium deficiency. When you don’t eat, you don’t get enough, which makes you feel worse and then you don’t eat some more. Get a pill if you have too, don’t end up in the hospital where they fix your potassium….take it from me, it’s a pain in the rear, and you get no sleep. Feel better soon!

With my chronic illness issues, I find that my best friend is some type of Gatorade. Even when I can’t eat, at least I am hydrated. Of course, I only drink the blue because I can’t stand the taste of the rest, but that or Pedilyte might help. No milk or dairy though!
