This week’s featured missing person is Bekime Elshani, age 22, who disappeared from Colorado Springs, Colorado on March 29, 2008. Her nickname is Becky and I’m reasonably sure her first name is pronounced like “Becky-May.” This is a sad case. Authorities believe this young woman met with foul play at the hands of her boyfriend, with whom she had a stormy relationship to say the least. Unfortunately what happened may never be fully known, as the boyfriend committed suicide two days after Bekime was last seen.
I would of guessed herb name was pronounced Beck-EEM.
I don’t know for sure, of course. But if you put an accent on the E, it becomes “Becky-May.” It sounds like her parents might have tried to give her a Kreeaytiv Speling.
If anyone who knew her finds this blog entry, I’d love for them to clarify this in the comments.
Her name was pronounced
ba-key-ma. I think I remember her telling me that her name was Armenian.
I think she must be of some kind of Middle Eastern background even though she doesn’t look it. Alshani sounds very Arabic to me.
I Googled “Elshani” and it’s a village in Macedonia, in southeastern Europe. There’s also a Qemail Elshani who is a football player from Kosovo.
She was such a pretty girl. What a waste. Maybe someday someone will come through with some information.
Bekime= Albanian for “blessing”
Even stranger, an article i found says her brother is named Bekim (almost the same as Bekime). Sounds confusing!
She is probably albanian. As an albanian I would prounounce her name as Bek-eem-e
her name means a gift from above she was a blessing to our family almost did not make it at birth almost lost her she has an albanian name miss her mom
I miss my beautiful girl still have dreams of her wish she was here
I still think about the joy Becky brought to my life in the short time I knew her. I still think about her often and pray that she is in a better place. R.I.P. Becky! We love you and miss you so much
