Make-a-List Monday: Autism

This list is of people on the autism spectrum, which includes autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). The most current psychiatric parlance is to lump all those conditions under the term “autism spectrum disorder.” Given how common the condition is (and how often it goes undiagnosed) chances are pretty good there many more people on Charley who are autistic and I just don’t know it.

Hmmmmm……. I’m a pediatric RN and have never known PDD to be placed on the autism spectrum. Not saying you are wrong- I work in Peds ICU, and seldom deal with autism but as a peripheral diagnosis. (In other words, no one comes to PICU because of their autism- it’s always something else that gets you a visit to my world)

Interesting link. Autism is a type of PDD- but not all PDD is on the autism spectrum. It also mentions Rett’s Syndrome- we have a ‘frequent flyer’ with this condition.

Yeah, but Rett’s is much less common than the others. Rett’s is present in only one in 10,000 and they’re all female; about 1 in 100 (depending on who you listen to) has some degree of autism and it’s present in boys and girls. In any case, it’s all Autism Spectrum Disorder now.

can’t remember if you have done a list for people missing on holidays or a particular holiday. that would be so sad for family. JonBenet missing at christmas. Lauria Bible and Ashley Freemen missing on New Year Eve. Must be more and so sad.

I remember Gordon Page on Unsolved Mysteries. His family, Dad, seemed like such good parents wanting the best for their child. I hope all of these people are found, if anything, so the family is not in limbo.
