Some thoughts on a possible change in policy

I’m giving very serious thought to changing my “update without notice” policy. Something like over 95% of the time, I post my updates on the updates page so people will know about them. I only update without a notice in a tiny minority of cases where the update is very minor and unimportant — like, say, if I add someone’s middle name.

I’m wondering if I ought to change that. Especially given the size of Charley nowadays, and how the many small updates (like, say, an AP) crowd out more substantial updates where I flesh out the story of the MP and add multiple paragraphs of information.

On the other hand, I know many people use Charley to identify bodies, and a small detail can catch their eye and their memory and lead to a match. For those people, updating without notice would make Charley a lot less useful, I should think.

So I’m not sure. I just know that doing more updating without notice would save me a lot of time and I could devote more attention to the case histories, which is Charley’s specialty.

Murder charges in Rainwalker case?

The DA wants to file murder charges in the disappearance of Jaliek Rainwalker, who disappeared six years ago today. (Hard to believe it’s been that long.) Presumably the person charged would be his adoptive father, Stephen Kerr, who claims Jaliek ran away.

But, as the DA pointed out, there’s “only one chance to get this right.” So he’s treading cautiously. He’ll consult with the police and do some thinking before he brings a case to the grand jury.

In the unlikely event that Jaliek is still alive, he would now be 18 now.
