Jesse Pomeroy was NOT executed on this day in 1876. They decided to commute his sentence to life in prison…without parole…in solitary confinement. He was only in his mid-teens, but his crimes were heinous by any standard.

I read a book about him a few years ago. He was a real nasty piece of work, and I think teenager or not they should have hung him, esp after he killed a couple of otherb prisoners trying to blow himself out of jail.
I don’t know what book you were reading, but Jesse did NOT kill anyone else in any of his numerous escape attempts. I’m not sure he even injured anyone other than himself when he caused that explosion.
