It’s Tuesday again, so I’ve got your MP of the week: Kristi Nikle, a mentally disabled teenager who disappeared from Grand Forks, North Dakota back in 1996. Authorities believe she could be the victim of a serial killer.

Random thought….we hear all the time about serial killers who preyed on prostitutes and because of the lifestyle, I wonder if it would have been just as easy to prey on those who were mentally ill and just trusting. I wonder if those cases were investigated as deeply as they should have been.
Does anyone remember any other cases in the country with people preying on the mentally disabled? I remember reading about another supposed serial killer who did the same thing, but in a different region. I just can’t remember his name!!! (This will drive me crazy until I research it and find it out!)
Are you thinking of Gary Heidnik? Some of his captives were mentally retarded, including one of the two who died, and he liked to hang out with retarded people in general.
There were several young men who disappeared from a certain home/institute for mentally disabled boys. The exact name of the place escapes me and specific boys who have disappeared do too. But there seems to be a tie between the institute – which is now closed – and the disappearances of these young men, who have never been seen. I would think that there are serial killers who do prey on the mentally disabled, because if they will prey on children and the elderly, they will certainly prey on those who are similarly trusting and somewhat helpless.
Steven Anderson, David Williams, and Kenneth Schweighart?
Yes, I believe those are the ones.
For the Lost: Would you please consider adding Amanda Nicole Eileen Campbell “Nikki” to your cases? I would have emailed the site but for some reason, (not your fault) I am unable to. Thank you for the site and the work you do for the missing.
There’s also the Cedu School, a “treatment center” for problem teens (not retarded people, just kids in trouble; Paris Hilton actually attended there for about five minutes) that closed a few years ago in part because of allegations of abuses going on. Three boys vanished from the school on three separate occasions over the years and were never found. And one of them was in no condition, physically, to run away.
