A slave named Tom

Executed today on this day in 1876 1786: a slave named Tom in the short-lived state of Franklin (now part of Tennessee). His owner fought for more than a decade to get reimbursed by the state for the loss of his property, but never collected a penny.

    Oops, I think you mean 1786. No slaves in 1876, and no Franklin either.
