A new theory about Susan Powell’s disappearance

This from People Magazine: I had written earlier about how Michael Powell, Josh’s brother, jumped off a parking garage roof to his death almost exactly a year after Josh blew himself and his two children to smithereens. Well, now the cops have a theory that Michael (rather than Steve, Josh’s pervert father) was an accomplice after the fact to Susan‘s presumed murder and it was he who buried her body.

Police began seeing clues to Michael Powell’s involvement fairly early in the case, says Anne Bremner, a high-profile Seattle attorney. Bremner represents Susan’s family as well as the victims in Steve Powell’s voyeurism case. She also has participated in many discussions between police and the Cox family.

Bremner says police learned after Susan disappeared that “Michael had his Ford Taurus towed a hundred miles, and then sold it for salvage value because, police think, he had her body in there. Then he hired militaristic satellite photography people to go look at the wrecking yard to see if his car had been completely destroyed, but it wasn’t.”

She adds, “Cadaver dogs came to the tow yard and only indicated on his car, no one else’s.”

More recently, Bremner says, Utah police repeatedly questioned Michael Powell in Minneapolis. Then, three months ago, Michael Powell jumped from the fifth story of a parking structure, taking his own life. He was 30.

I hope this latest theory leads to something. Susan’s body, preferably.

What a complete clusterf*** the Powell family is. I feel so sorry for Susan and those little boys.

Seriously – what a bunch of losers. Don’t they have a sister who is fairly normal? I thought I read that somewhere…

Yes. She is, naturally, estranged from the rest of the family.

Charlie Foxtrot, as we say here. I don’t hold out hope that they will find Susan, even though they are searching, simply because those who did her in don’t want her to be. I’ve always compared her to the March case a bit, almost as sordid. I do hope Susan is found though, I think that might be the only decent shake her family gets.

But– and this is probably mentioned somewhere on here– Anne Bremner says there is a continuing federal investigation. I read some of the most terrible comments on a news website last night about that from people who seemed to have no empathy for that. They questioned why any investigation would stay open and I want to ask them that if that was their daughter, wouldn’t they want authorities to keep looking?

Susan’s body has not been found, Steven Powell could have been involved, and there are still a lot of unanswered questions. There could be others involved as well, or people who know something and haven’t disclosed it. This isn’t a closed case just because the two primary suspects died.

I don’t even know what to say. What a freakin mess! And I’m thinking the odds of finding her just went way down. So many questions….if they knew a lot of this before, why not act on it? Though I guess that would cover the boys’ deaths as well…..I’m just stunned. NOW they want help? I think the leads lead (no pun) right to the Powell doorstep. How can they not call the house a crime scene? Jeez….and one more note, I have nothing to say about the poisoned pancakes thing but I have to wonder if someone wasn’t watching soap operas. I am not even joking, All My Children offed a very popular character with those, a few years ago, big deal, but that is such an odd thing to come up. What the hell is wrong with this family?

Well, killers have been known to get their murder ideas from TV. In Andrea Yates’s first murder trial they testified (wrongly) that she could have gotten her idea to kill her children from a Law and Order episode. In fact the incorrect testimony was what lead them to give a second trial.
