Naturally, money’s being raised by the public for the benefit of the rescued Cleveland girls

As per this article, the fund is up to almost $500,000 now. But that’s not much when you consider it will be split four ways (Amanda, Michelle, Gina and Amanda’s daughter), which is just $125,000 each. And Michelle and Gina, at least, apparently have serious physical problems stemming from the beatings, starvation etc. during their captivity that will require long-term medical care. Not to mention the serious, long-term psychological/psychiatric care all four of them will need.

No doubt, however, more money will be coming in from well-wishers. If any of the girls decide to go on the lecture tour or write a book or something, it would be well-received. The state crime victims’ fund will have to cover at least some of the damages, and they may get even more money due from the state; Jaycee Dugard got twenty million and deserved every penny.

I’d be very interested to know how Amanda Berry ended up being kind of the “favorite” with Castro. She wasn’t there the longest or the shortest, she wasn’t the oldest or the youngest, it can’t even be b/c she had his baby since Michelle Knight got pregnant several times and it didn’t do her any good. All I can think of was that Amanda was somehow mentally the sharpest one of the bunch and could put on a good act with him and make him trust her more.
It reminds me so much of Josefina Rivera, the girl who escaped from Gary Heidnik and got the police to come in and rescue the others he had in his cellar. She was in his house the longest and was easily the smartest one of them, most of the others being on the slow side more or less. She played him enough that he thought he could trust her, even though that meant she had to hurt the other girls or tattle on them. She kept it up till he allowed her out on her own and that’s when she turned him in.

That’s an interesting insight and it may well be correct. Amanda seems to have been intelligent, was in gifted education. I don’t know about Michelle, but I know Gina is/was learning disabled and a special ed student. Of course, learning disabled doesn’t necessarily mean low IQ, but it’s an indication.

Jaycee Dugard deserved every penny b/c the probation officers were IN THE HOUSE and never followed up on the calls from neighbors who saw the tents in the back yard. It is impossible to Understand how this evil lives among us. Sick and I hope the girls do get money to live. Doubt they can really hold down a job without anxiety, etc… Marc Klaas and John Walsh have advised the girls not to be in the media until they have a time to heal. Shawn (the boy) has only been in the media a few times. May peace be with them.

I was thinking of Gina today when I was walking. When she gave the thumbs up at her house, her face was covered but her wrist was sticking out a little Her wrist was so skinny and white. No sun for 10 years. I think about her sometime b/c my daughter is 22 and I would die if that happened to her.

I’m pretty sure just being out of the sun for ten years, without all the other stuff, would lead to health problems such as a Vitamin A deficiency. I always wondered if all those burka- and chador-wearing women in the Middle East had that problem.
