Oba Chandler was executed a year ago today; here is my writeup of the case. Chandler’s crimes were exceptionally horrific, and that’s coming from a person who reads about kidnappings and murders every day. He’s also a suspect in the 1991 disappearance of Linda Lois Little.
I remember seeing a tv show, some true crime show, about Oba Chandler. It was just horrific what he did to those poor girls and their mother. He was just recently executed, which is probably why they showed it on tv. I don’t support the death penalty but I don’t believe this guy was innocent either. He was a sick and dangerous predator.
I think I saw the true crime show too. Absolutely horrific.
If you read the comments section of the entry I wrote, you’ll see I have a (very slight) personal connection to the case.
I’m against the DP but I’m sure glad he’s dead and only sorry it didn’t happen sooner.
so scary. I feel scared just reading/seeing the story on any type of show. SICK. To be out in the middle of the ocean, and KNOW what is going to happen, must have been the worst fear ever. The woman Oba had raped was only saved b/c her friend did not go on the boat. That is what is so sad. Not only were the women killed in such a scary and evil way and the husband/father left without a family, Innocence was lost. The innocence was lost. There was a sample of his handwriting on a bill board. A woman recognized it. She said just seeing the hand writing made her scared. SIck sick
Reading about people like Oba Chandler makes me wonder what made him into what he was. I believe (I hope) that nobody is born like that. Maybe some people are born psychopaths but very few psychopaths are violent, and certainly not to the extent that he was. (I believe one of my brothers is a psychopath, and several mental health professionals I’ve described him to say he sounds like a psychopath, but, abusive as he’s always been to me, he’s never been physically violent.)
But we’ll never know, with Chandler, because he refused to call anybody to testify in the sentencing phase about his childhood or anything like that. His dad killed himself when Chandler was about seven, which must have been extremely traumatic, but that does not a murderer make. I wonder if he had the serial killer “triad” as a child — bed-wetting, fire-setting and cruelty to animals. I suppose Chandler wasn’t technically a serial killer because the Rogers women’s murders happened all at the same time, but even if he didn’t kill Linda Lois Little I’m sure he would have kept on murdering for as long as he could. The Rogers murders were carefully planned and executed, suggesting he’d had practice, but who knows.
