John of Powderham

Another Executed Today entry from me: John of Powderham, executed in England in 1318 for claiming he was King Edward II when he was not. Later he claimed his pet cat had put him up to it. The man was in all probability bat-guano insane, possibly schizophrenic. Unfortunately the cat also paid the ultimate price for his master’s transgression.

I swear, you can’t trust anything a cat tells you. They love spinning outlandish stories just to make their owners look like idiots. This one at least had it backfire onto him. lol

Perhaps the cat thing was the 14th century version of “the dog ate my homework.”

But cats do indeed like to make their owners look like idiots.
