New MP of the week

Due to this month’s blue funk/computer death problems, I missed two times where I was supposed to change my missing person of the week. But I have changed it today: Helga Charlet Smith, age 57, missing from Ellenton, Florida since Christmas Eve 2010. I only added her case back in December. I prefer to use cases I haven’t updated recently as my MP of the week (although my guidelines say anything I haven’t updated in three months is fair game). But Helga’s stepdaughter contacted me on Facebook and requested I profile her, so I obliged.

I’ve got nothing on her, alas. Her stepdaughter had some additional info, but not much.

I have wondered why some MP cases have few details available on their disappearances. Is it because LE will not release info to the public? Was the MP estranged from their families? No friends to care about them? Just wondering out loud.

Usually it’s a problem of I only have a poster or a basic profile from one of the databases to work off of, and no one has done an article on the case. In cases where I have many details, almost all of it comes from the press.

This is helgas stepdaughter yes she was estranged from the family my father whom she cared for until he passed in 2008 when he died she completely cut contact I had one conversation w her a year after he passed then in 2010 we were informed she was missing I believe she took my fathers death hard but she was always a very private woman.

I think it’s cool that her stepd. came forward and asked for help spotlighting the case. You don’t see that a lot, so kudos to her. Hopefully it’ll lead to some tips. I do wonder sometimes myself at gaps in details or reports being filed, but I do think a lot of it is estranged families, or an MP who is in and out of touch, that sort of thing. If every case had details I bet there would be less John and Jane Does. Though I also read some doe cases in amazement that no one knows a thing, there are a ton of them with very specific id markers and all. It is sad, all the way around.
