New MP of the week

External circumstances have gotten me feeling really down and generally angry over the past few days, and I don’t feel like updating at the moment. But it’s Tuesday and I have my MP of the week: Kyanja Keri Vanwey, a seventeen-year-old runaway who disappeared from Des Moines, Iowa in September 2005.

For some reason she wasn’t reported missing for close to four months, and as far as I know there haven’t been any leads on her disappearance. In addition to an AP, there are two photos of Kyanja, and she looks totally different in both. I would not recognize her from one photograph if I looked at the other.

Kyanja, if she is alive, would be 24 today.

UPDATE: To all the peeps out there concerned about my well-being, I’m fine. Really. Just angry about something terrible that happened to a good friend of mine, something which doesn’t directly affect me.

I think you can see the resemblance, considering one is obviously an older, childhood school pic. I always wonder when there is any case with a prolonged time b/w the disapperance and report, but it could be one of many things. I hope she is still alive and not a Doe somewhere. You never know. I see alot of the resolved cases where the person was in the midteens and then found years later, after that 18 mark. Which reminds me, I need to look up why 18 is the benchmark for adulthood. I read today on dailymail that they found Trudie Hall, which is good for her family, but very sad since some of her friends thought she could have walked out on her own. Is there anyone else that has noticed that dailymail in the UK is more on top of US crime than some of the US sites? I swear, I get more info from there than, say, CNN. Ok, rant over.

The Daily Mail has a UK and US edition. They track visitors’ IPs to determine what country they’re in, and refer them to the appropriate edition. That’s why you and I see a lot of US crime in the Daily Mail.

Oh, I think 18 might come back to medieval times. I think you could become a squire at 18 and a knight at 21.

My guess is that Kyanja wasn’t reported missing because she ran away a lot and her parents/guardians assumed she would come back.

Dailymail is a great website and always reports things much wuicker than anyone else. The mobile app is good too and you can read either US or UK edition.

Me? I’m fine. As far as my “feeling really down and generally angry over the past few days” it’s a long story, but I personally am fine.

Yep, you! Hope you are feeling a bit less “down and generally angry” today (or tonight, as it may be where you are) 😊
