Finally updated

I apologize for not having updated in ten days. I got addicted to Wanelo and started making all kinds of wishlists for items I have no serious intention of purchasing, and suddenly ten days had passed and there were 22 resolves and all kinds of updates to do. I updated twenty cases today. I will add new ones tomorrow.

I wrote a fairly detailed resolve notice for Amanda Slaughter. Read this feature article for the whole story. Her life and death could be seen as a cautionary tale for what might happen to you if you run away from home. She wanted to go back; if only she had swallowed her pride and her fear and picked up the phone! It’s a shame she wasn’t identified sooner, but I suppose it couldn’t be helped — everyone thought she was someone called Mandy Wells and only her boyfriend knew otherwise, and for reasons best known to himself he kept this a secret all that time.

I also did all the updates with the Shermantine/Herzog well discovery. It’s pretty huge, rather like a few years ago in New Mexico with the bodies on the mesa. It seems like half the MPs in California are going to turn up in those wells.

The last updates listed on the Updates page are from February 14th. Are you going to put up all the updates and new cases in one batch tomorrow, and I’m just misreading this blog post? I was looking forward to reading your Shermantine updates in particular.

Refresh the updates page, and you should see the new updates.

I am wondering if they are going to find any remains of Michaela Garecht in there. I want some closure to that case.

Her mom thinks she was kidnapped for human trafficking purposes and possibly taken to the United Arab Emirates. She believes Michaela is still alive.

Anything’s possible, I guess. I think the chances of Michaela being in that well are only fair-to-middling. She’s much younger than any of Herzog and Shermantine’s other victims, and Shermantine admitted he didn’t know anything about the case and had only noticed that Herzog looked a little like the sketch is all.

I hope to God her mom is at least partly right and that Michaela will turn up just like Jaycee Dugard did. Though I’m realistic enough to entertain the idea that it’s probably more likely that Michaela landed in the hands of a child predator and lived for awhile before… well, you know. 😦 Though I would LOVE to be wrong here!!

BTW, read up on Amanda Slaughter. She played with fire and got seriously, seriously burned. This is one case where I’m okay with her murderer walking the streets (after having served some time in prison, of course). No reasonable teenager would abscond from their family’s residence with all of their parents’ cash and their own possessions with some random dude more than twice their age. That is just not done if you’ve got any brain cells in your brain and are apparently old enough to have completed the 6th grade. And to contrast this with Michaela, Jaycee, Cyndi Vanderheiden, Chevy Wheeler, Elda Vasquez, Kathy Min Chou, or any of the other girls/women who were just trying to live their lives but became victims of prolonged kidnapping and/or murder… yeah.

I think Amanda might have had what they now call Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

I just wish the guy who killed her had come clean about the fact that she wasn’t who she said she was. It wouldn’t have made things worse for him, and would have considerably shortened the time Amanda’s parents spent wondering where she was.

Totally off the subject, but thank coffee that I love and respect your and your mind because if I didn’t I might have to whack you….I looked up this Wanelo thing…and then spent 3 HOURS on it. OMG. More things that I now feel I might not live without. Tee-hee. Funny thing is I kept clicking on things that you had also apparently clicked on… funny and ironic!

    (you know I’m kidding…i wouldn’t hurt anyone)

Too bad there’s no such thing as Wanelo Rehab.

What makes Michaela’s mother think her daughter was taken to the UAE? What evidence does she have for that idea?
I know the poor woman must be hurting bad, but that “kidnapped to the harems” stuff sounds more like a fantasy she’s grabbed onto b/c even that is better than believing Michaela is dead, which she almost surely is even if it wasn’t by Herzog and Shermantine.
Shantae’s putting more and more money on Tim Binder…

How very shocking about the Amanda Gail Slaughter case. Poor girl, and her poor mother and daughter, both who lived all these years without her and without knowing the truth. Her case is rather similar to Jessica Ann Kinsey’s, who interestingly enough was the same age as Amanda when she went missing. They even look alike. It’s sad that children have a bad life (or at least think their life is bad) at home and have to resort to running away from home with little to no resources, or running away with (or to) someone who harms them in some way. I wrote a paper about runaways when I was in college (criminal justice major) and I realize that even the ones that are found safe and come home are not guaranteed a happy ending.
