I get really tired of people threatening to sue me who apparently either don’t have the slightest comprehension of the relevant laws, or assume that I don’t.
The more so because all this person had to do was make a polite request, and I would have accommodated her. There was no need for threats.
I’ve actually stopped counting the number of lawsuit threats I’ve gotten. Ten or twelve by now, I think, but I’m not sure.
MY GOODNESS~!’
JUST IGNORE that mess ,you know there are some real peices of work OUT THERE,no reason for themn to threaten you.SO SAD people do things like this.
Maybe you need to make your disclaimers larger. Say in neon. Or something. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Why is it always you? Or maybe I just don’t hear about the other exasperated blog administrators.
If it helps, I got the same thing.
Ok, actually that does help some. Not that I’m happy anyone gets lawsuit threats, esp. in this sue happy country, but it’s good to know M. has some compatriots in such. What is it they say…no good deed goes unpunished or some such? I think that would apply.
My site includes a lot more information on the cases than other sites like Doe and NamUs. This contributes to the “constant lawsuit threats” thing — the more info I have on there, the more likely it is that somebody, somewhere, will take offense at something down the line.
I guess I don’t understand what people would want to sue you over. All you are doing is raising awareness for the missing. Love the site by the way. Keep up the good work!
I was going to say this also. Isn’t a site like this trying to help – not hinder?
You are more patient than me, Meaghan, because my response would be “Get in line”. π
Man, some of these lawsuit happy people need to get hobbies or something. Your site does a world of good.
People object to things all the time- the character of their missing loved one, a suspects name listed in an entry, the implication that…whatever. When it all boils down to it, we are all just trying to find missing people. If you have a problem with a missing person being found, I wonder if your conscience is giving you problems. Seriously.
Ignore them all. π
Am I missing a link? What did the person threaten to sue you over Meaghan? I can’t imagine worrying about that when someone I love is missing. I don’t care if it’s been 50+ years. What a shame.
She herself was the missing person. Threatening to sue me over her recovery notice.
Jeez, I guess I’m strange for thinking a ‘thank you’ would have been in order than a threat of a lawsuit. I just don’t get some people.
Wow… I, for one am thankful that she is not in a makeshift grave somewhere in an isolated field… you’d think people would WANT it known that they were alive and well so they wouldn’t be spending time trying to match them and look for them and worry about them and their families…
Interestingly, I did notice that 2 of the cases I was following (both female) have dropped off your site recently with no “resolved” update… now I’m curious.
There is a disclaimer or whatever on the resolved page saying that at the request of families or police, some cases are not recorded as solved/recovered.
I understand that, and understand why the website has this disclaimer, but what I don’t get is why a person wouldn’t want us to know that they are alive and well. It’s not like the website discloses their exact location or anything.
If they found their way to this site, I’m sure they also have noticed the effort people go through trying to locate them. That’s all I’m getting at. π
Some people just want their privacy.
Most of the time though, when I remove a case without posting a notice, it’s because they’re no longer listed with the source and therefore have probably been found but I don’t know when, how or under what circumstances.
Yeah, and some people are plain nuts. I’m in a bad mood, so I feel like being mean lol.
