Someone had a worse time than I did

I thought locking my keys in my car was bad but it turns out my boyfriend’s roommate got bitten by a dog several days ago. It really tore up his leg and he had to have surgery and spend a few days in the hospital. He’s out now but it’s infected and he’s got a fever and is really grumpy. AND he had to go to work for what was supposed to be a four-hour shift that turned into eleven hours, and he couldn’t beg it off because he just started this job.

“Holy crap, dude,” was all I could say. “I’m so sorry.”

Fortunately the dog’s owner is paying for all the medical expenses. He said he didn’t blame the dog because it was just trying to protect its family.

Protecting its family from what? Did this guy threaten somebody in his family? B/c if he didn’t, the dog is not very well trained. This is his one free bite, I hope.

He explained the situation to me:

      1. Owner is pregnant.
      2. Owner just kicked out her abusive husband.
      3. Roommate strongly resembles the said abusive husband, something that was remarked upon shortly before the dog attack.
      4. Owner was trying to get off the couch, and couldn’t because she was so hugely pregnant.
      5. Roommate quickly reached out to help her up.
      6. Dog went berserk and laid into him.

He thinks the dog thought he was going to hit the woman, and because of the above circumstances the dog would be inclined to be extra-protective, so…

Hope he got that in writing – and reported it to the police if the ER did not.

I guess it got reported to somebody because he said he wouldn’t press charges and told the Humane Society he didn’t want the dog put down.

Great. Now the dog will be competing for attention with a baby that can’t defend itself.

      Amen, Princess, amen.

B/c this dog has already bit somebody and hurt him bad. It doesn’t make a difference that the dog thought it was protecting its owner. Its a biter and its posessive of its owner. No mother should even have to think about keeping a dog like that around a new baby. Period.

Why do you think the dog will cause a problem with the babies? Most dogs do all right with babies, provided they’re properly supervised.

Of course he knew that it wasn’t the dog’s fault. And the owner is stepping up and paying for the medical bills so that’s a plus.
