Derek Funk

I found this article about Derek Funk, who’s been missing from Knoxville, Tennessee for ten months now. It’s a very good article, and I’m happy this case got some media attention — most missing young men get zilch.

It sounds like Derek had a lot going for him. He was only 19 but he was living on his own, renting a house with an option to buy, and he had a good job. I doubt he’s still alive. The $64,000 question, to my mind, would be where is his truck? Vehicles are a lot harder to hide than bodies. But because of the mix-up with the license plate number, this one might be relatively easy.

I read this article in the paper today and hoped that you would post it as well. I am from the Knoxville area and work in Anderson County where Derek is from.

I am also interested in the Michael Hearon case. He vanished near where I live now in Maryville, TN. I plan on participating in the next search for him that is conducted. I should also point out that he is missing from Tallassee, TN not Tallahassee, TN (there is such a place though!).

I have been reading Charley for five years or more, but this is my first comment. Keep up the good work, and thanks for all the effort you put into it. I’m glad you don’t let the negative comments of others discourage what you do. I think it’s fantastic!

Commenters were suggesting, because he cut the last call short with his ex-girlfriend because he was tired & wanted to concentrate on driving, maybe he went off the road in an accident. They say concentrate a search on the area between the last cell phone ping & his home: over guardrails, down embankments, in heavy bushes & waterway areas. Cynical as I am with what I see on the news everyday, it would also be wise for police to check out the ex: whereabouts that night, cell phone activity, etc. Articles says they remained friends, but she was still staying with him cuz she had no place to live. Hope I’m wrong, but people have been killed over much less. Prayers to his family & loved ones. They must be sick over his disappearance.

Case in point: just this past week here in MD, a young woman killed her co-worker, who was going to snitch her out for theft of store items. Not only did she murder her, she viciously beat her to death, beating her on the head over & over, severing her spine and sexually assaulted her to make it look like men did it. As well as staged the crime scene afterwards to make herself look like a victim. There are very sadistic people in this world who will stop at nothing to get their way.
