Per ABC News, Ann Pettway has turned herself over to the police in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which is where her family lives and where she raised Carlina for a time after the abduction. It sounds like that’s the first sensible thing she’s done in a long time.

Did she really. I hadn’t heard that yet. Well, I guess we will see what they decide to do with her now. I hate to jump to conclusions, but running made me really think she was the lady at the hospital and didn’t just buy the baby on the black market. I’m not even sure how much trouble she is in…I heard that only federal charges could be filed now since everything else expired a long time ago. I have no idea if that is right or not, but I read that somewhere. I’d love to hear what she has to say motive wise, since I’ve also read she was not a good mother. Why take the kid if you don’t want to raise her? Sounds bizarre. Then again, this whole case is.
I knew she would. She’s too stupid to think she can run forever.
Its hard to run your hole life when the truth runs after you. And one day the truth will hit your head like hard. I guess that’s what happend to Ann Pettway. And if she is the woman from the hospital, she probably feel that she can’t live without Carlina, that’s why she took Her in the first place. She wanted a baby. Now when the secret is out, and “her baby” isn’t there anymore is feel like she is dead. And in so many ways she is. Her life is over, and it ended 23 years ago.
And her baby is all grown up now and helped bring this whole house down around Ann’s ears. I don’t guess they’ll have very much to say to each other now.
If they ever did. Again, I heard they were not overly close through Carlina’s life. However, I do wonder what will happen to AP’s son. I don’t know how old he is but I think late teens, enough to be living at home. What will happen to him now?
He is 13.
Totally unrelated Meaghan, and I’m sorry if you posted this before on your blog and I missed it, but did you see the article (I saw it on CNN) about Cherie Mahan? Maybe a great break in the case from a tip? No details yet that I have heard.
Probably whatever’s happened to him the times Ann’s been arrested or out doing drugs before.
Poor that’s kid. I almost hope she kidnapped him too, so he could have a safer home like he deserve.
That’s a hell of a way to grow up. And I know it has been speculated (on this blog as well) that he could be another missing/abducted child, etc. I bet there is a DNA test in his future. Poor kid.
There’s like a 10 year age difference between him and Carlina, and she’s pretty sharp so I’m sure she know if Ann was pregnant and gave birth to him.
Her own relatives didn’t notice she hadn’t given birth to Carlina, so I’m not so sure of that.
I read the story and you really do have to wonder how this was able to go on for so long- no records, no birth certificate…how is that possible to keep a lie like that going? it would probably be a lot harder if it were to happen today.
Thankfully at least this story had a happy ending…far too many missing kid stories don’t!
Just saw a post on FOX News that she has confessed to the whole thing.
Is Carlina the one whose family won money from the hospital, but it was put in trust until a certain date had passed, and that date has come and gone? Is the money long gone to charity or something now? If I’m remembering correctly it’s her I wonder how she feels about that. What an awful thought that if her “mother” had just come clean a few years earlier she might have her future set for her.
I was thinking the same thing myself about the trust…..
Another off topic comment here but, Meaghan, did you know that Maureen Brainard Barnes, who is on your site, has been found? She was id’d as one of the four bodies they found on the beach in Long Island last month. Another of the bodies is Megan Waterman who I can’t remember if you have her on your site or if I saw her on NAMPN.
Anyway, the police say it is a serial killer and all the victims were “escorts” who worked through the internet.
