According to this article (more than a month old, but I didn’t see it before now), the older sister of Heidi Marie Allen is writing a memoir of her experiences and hopes to publish it. Heidi was 18 when she disappeared from the convenience store where she worked in New Haven, New York in 1994. Two brothers were tried for her kidnapping. One was convicted, the other acquitted. No one was charged with murder and Heidi’s body, or conclusive evidence of her death, has never been found. So the sister, Lisa Buske, has been writing this book, which is thus far untitled. It says in the article, published October 30, that she hopes to have it finished by Thanksgiving. So it could be done by now.
If it gets published I would like to read it. Another missing person’s relative’s memoir, A Rip in Heaven, about the Julie and Robin Kerry case, was awesome and I reviewed it favorably on Charley and on the book websites I frequent.

Meaghan, I know you are not a big tv watcher, but did you ever see/hear of the American Justice they did on this case? It was heartbreaking to see what the cousin went through (this being the Kerrys). I still want to read the book. I would read HA sister’s book too. I read the article and that is just so sad. What got me the most is her saying she lives life now like she is an only child. I wonder why the guy they convicted didn’t give up her location, unless he’s holding out on innocence forever……….and how are you feeling?
No, I never heard about that show. It does sound interesting. I don’t feel the loss of TV most of the time, but sometimes I wish I could catch shows like that. Maybe there’s a recording somewhere.
I’m feeling a bit better. Yesterday and the day before I was absolutely miserable, carrying around a roll of toilet paper everywhere I went (which wasn’t anywhere, really) and shoving pieces up my nose to stop the flow. But now I’m on the mend. Thank you for your concern.
I saw that show. American Justice has good stories sometimes and this was one of the good shows. It was eerie seeing the re-enactment. I could see how scared the girls must have been. The sad thing was seeing the cousin accused of the murders. How awful for him. Meaghan, I think AMerican Justice does sell tapes/dvds. Maybe there is an online story. I wonder how the parents ever live through this, not one child but two.
“A Rip in Heaven” had a metaphorical bridge crossing an epochal river as its centerpiece, plus a great title indicative of great sorrow. These three things set it far apart from other stories of that nature.
Oh Meaghan, you are missing OUT!!! You would LOOOOOVE American Justice! It’s the show that started my “true crime” obsession.

Mine too, I realy liked that show and Investigative Report too. But I don’t think they’ve made any new AJ’s for like ten years. Everytime I catch one its just a rerun.
I remember the Kerry case & read A Rip In Heaven. It was so well written, you could almost feel the terror those girls must have felt up on that bridge. I felt so bad for that family & the cousin who was accused. If we had a strong enough justice system in this country, those 4 scumbags would have been executed the day after conviction. Much like the O.J. case, it became all about race, instead of double murder. If I remember correctly, one had the opportunity to appeal for over a decade before they finally got rid of him, another’s death sentence was reversed to life, one was still fighting the DP & the other was back on the street last I read. He was young too. Wonder how many more he will rape & murder in his lifetime so the taxpayers can support him again in the future.
It wasn’t “all about” race and, thank God, fortunately this country has a justice system and is a nation of laws, ones which Judge Lynch cannot enforce with the quick looping of a noose.
You misunderstood me, Bart. I know the rape & murders weren’t about race, but 3 of the 4 defendants claimed their prosecution was. I also understand we are a nation of laws & can’t willy nilly impose the death penalty. However, science proved those 4 scumbags guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. In my opinion, as well as many others in this country, they should have paid with their own lives, not been supported by taxpayers or released back into society.
Well, at least two of them were under the age of 18, which is why they weren’t executed. The US has within the past few years outlawed the execution of minors — the only countries that still do so are Yemen, Pakistan and other places without a good reputation.
The youngest, age 15, is now out of jail. (People made a big fuss about how he was the only white one and the only one who didn’t face the death penalty. It had nothing to do with his race. He was under 16 and at that time you had to be 18 to face death.) He wrote a letter of apology to the Kerry family and I’ve heard they think his remorse was genuine. As for the others…they deserve whatever the state could throw at them, and more.
I don’t think American Justice or City Confidential (another A&E/Bio channel show) do any new epis now, but I do love the reruns when I can watch them. Last I checked the dvds through the channel sites were a ripoff, like $25 bucks for one episode, that would be better to see on Youtube or get a copy from ebay or something.

The ABSOLUTE BEST true crime show today is The First 48 on A & E. Someday, marycarney is gonna move to Miami and meet up with one of those hot homicide detectives……….
